Ill admit it. I like it.

Takes a bit to follow along...and you have to watch the episodes in sequence. Go to wikipedia and search the anime to find the correct order in which to watch em.

You won't regret it

completely missed the point there. but I understand people find it hard to read and watch at the same time

point is i have no problem watching a three hour movie if it's subbed. but if i'm going to watch a series, that will occupy maybe 40 hours or more of my time, i'd rather it be in english. especially if it's a heavily visual series or comedy.

^ I second GTO from an above post. Besides GTO I'd recommend Bleach, well the first 65 episodes or so, after that it starts dragging on a bit but it's still pretty cool.

Berserk - Great for the first part then the last few episodes everything goes to hell (and by hell I mean awesomeness)

this season i'm not watching anything
may check out tales of the abyss since i like the tales rpgs

last season was macross frontier and code geass r2.
geass r2 was pretty meh
frontier had a good start and good ending, but most of the middle was meh

tried to watch the comedy/harem anime.
rosario + vampire, kanokon, to love ru etc... couldn't sit through them. i guess i'm too old now. couldn't watch sekirei either. really sick of that whole genre.

fairly recent shows i actually really liked...
tower of druaga
lucky star. this show is absolutely hilarious, but you have to be well versed in japanese culture and anime to get most of the jokes in the show...

its hard to choose an anime to get into without knowing a little about it... I would watch like half an episode of a anime and be like "ehhh ill pass" lol

Black Lagoon *i may watch it again*
Black Lagoon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Lagoon)
The story follows a team of pirates/mercenaries known as Lagoon Company, who smuggle goods in and around the seas of Southeast Asia in the 1990s[3] Their base of operations is located in the fictional city of Roanapur in Thailand, and they transport goods in the PT boat Black Lagoon. When on land, they move around and conduct business using Benny's 1969 Dodge Coronet R/T (with a '69 Plymouth Roadrunner side-scoop induction hood). Lagoon Company does business with various clients, but has a particularly friendly relationship with the Russian crime syndicate Hotel Moscow. The team takes on a variety of missions—which may involve violent firefights, hand-to-hand combat, and nautical battles—in various Southeast Asian locations and when not doing much, the members of the Lagoon Company spend much of their down time at The Yellow Flag, a bar in Roanapur.
You will watch it because of the girl.. Good visual art style, and the violence, they curse etc etc and the ending of the series was pretty intense.

black lagoon was awesome. i wish it had a more coherent storyline... could've been epic.

most of anime in past few years has sucked imo. these were the exceptions.

code geass (first season). it's on cartoon network now so i think anyone who cares knows what it's about.

lucky star:
random daily musings and interactions of four high school girls with of japanese culture and anime culture references. it's very random with no real main storyline. everyone here should get this particular reference easily.
YouTube - Lucky Star - Initial D (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sa-uFj0frls)

tower of druaga:
based on an old 80s video game. goal was to reach the top of the tower and kill the demon druaga. story is about the aftermath in the decades following and resurgence of the tower, along with the mysteries around it. cool cast, light comedy as well. great artwork by gonzo. sequel coming next year iirc. awesome op intro (that has nothing to do with the actual story of the anime, btw).
YouTube - Tower of Druaga Aegis of Uruk op ita (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Km4K606qW4Y)

haruhi suzumiya
too much summary would give away the twists... suffice to say haruhi is seemingly a bored high schooler (of course) who searches for 'espers, time travelers, and aliens.' she forms an after school club to find such adventures and forcibly conscripts the other main characters, including kyon, the narrator. weird things happen and it turns out haruhi's boredom is tied to the very fate of the world. it's stupid hilarious. episodes are also numbered out of order. sequel is in the works. opening:
YouTube - Lucky ☆ Star OP - Haruhi Style FULL COLOR (Haru☆Star) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N1e-nRZfjo)

diebuster:
sequel to gunbuster, which is a classic 80s anime. humanity fights a mysterious invading aliens in space with the help of people with special powers called 'topless' (humorous reference to gunbuster 1) who pilot buster machines (read: giant humanoid robots). seriously over the top mecha sequences - it's almost half poking fun of the mecha genre (similar to the original gunbuster as well). story is light and random (flcl style) at first, but takes a serious twist at the end, tying straight into the original gunbuster.
YouTube - Groovin Magic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfKhYIH9CGs)

gurren lagann
another super over the top action not-serious mecha anime. it also pokes fun at itself and mecha genre in general. the story starts with a small tribe of people living underground digging tunnels to survive. by the end of the show the battle is over the entire universe itself... literally. similar to diebuster in that it starts totally nonserious and ends up almost tragic by the end, but has a much longer progression and more characters.
YouTube - Gurren Lagann OP (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgKSjUOrgQQ)

thanks aznpoopy ill check em out

i guess the art styles of the ones u posted are lil too childish looking for me lol but im sure they aight..

i enjoyed Capeta, doesnt seem too popular though.. wonder if they will continue it...

Enna
12-08-2008, 03:22 AM
Tengen toppa gurren lagann was the shit. I'm still trying to find the movie subbed, but noone has dropped it yet. It is seriously one of my favorite anime's of all time, hands down.

I'm watching more old-school anime's atm. Outlaw star and Gundam Wing remastered FTW!

Also Gundam 00 is addicting like crack, fucking great show. <3 the HD gundam.

So glad to see I'm not the only one on here who watches anime, and prefers subs.

Edit: Just saw episode 10 of season 2 Gundam 00, holy shit. But damn do I hate cliffhangers.

I've recently found the comedy gold of Slam Dunk. Old school and they bullshit alot with flashbacks and playbacks from the previous episode, its pretty intriguing if you like basketball and its funny as hell.

Anyone here seen Mushi-Shi? Its not your typical robot slaying, samurai super action stuff. Its very laid back and plays with your mind. Great art style and each episode is like a new story. If you guys have the spare time to sit down and relax I really recommend this one.

Blassreiter was cool too. I wanna check out Berserk and Black Lagoon now :)

it is not proven that Kakashi is dead, so I would not jump the gun yet. And no crying about manga spoilers, shit is bunk, go to onemanga.com and update yourself already

diebuster was good, I dont know fi there are any good subs of it though, the ones I found all had audio problems where you could only hear the music and not the dialogue.

why d/l the gurren movie? IIRC is it not just a massive summary of the series compressed into 2 hours?

i almost forgot this one. check out blade of the immortal. it's been my avatar forever. i used to read the manga. there's a new anime of it now. it's about an immortal swordsman in ancient japan. the initial arc has him protecting a girl who seeks vengeance for the death of her father against a sword school going around killing other schools.

mushishi was alright. it got old for me since there's no main plotline besides the 'mushishi of the week' set up. there's a live action movie of it now, iirc.

Samurai Champloo - finished it up not too long ago. Pure awesome. Sucks it had to end.

why d/l the gurren movie? IIRC is it not just a massive summary of the series compressed into 2 hours?

Typically yeah thats how it is. This one has new music, more detail, and expands the story in certain area's that were left kinda empty. Pretty much it fills in those lil area's the series didn't cover. Probably like how kamina got back underground when he was on the surface?

Edit: Also its split into 2 movies, maybe a 3rd.
