As a very very big boxing fan I like to consider myself in the know about everything involving boxing. That being said I am also mexican and cannot stand De La Hoya, yet I also cannot stand Pacquiao. But I came up with a solution though which anyone who may know a little of boxing may recognize the names.
Q: What would be better for the sport of boxing?
A: Pacquiao winning would be the best thing, which I honestly think he will. (De La Hoya is past his prime and isn't a very good fighter anymore, so if he were to win it wouldn't be good for the sport of boxing and just produce boring fights)
Not to mention if and when Pacquiao wins it will open up a string of other good fights.
For example:
Pacquiao > De La Hoya
>
>
Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton
>
>
and finally he should retire on the pinnacle of his career fight vs former undisputed pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. Yes thats right:
'Pound 4 Pound best vs Pound 4 Pound Best'
Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Now this would probably be the only fight worthy of making Mayweather come out of retirement to destroy pacquiao, but it would be a great fight and a $$$$ fight like none have seen.

I'm with Erjay on this one, even though I'm mexican I can't stand De La Hoya and I hope he gets his ass handed to him. One question for those on the know, How much will the addded weight affect Pacquiao's speed? Moving up two weight classes should not be something favorable to him

Very true but i still don't think Oscar can keep up,
Pac man needs to concentrate his speed in key areas to win, cause if he doesn't de la hoya's power will get him...

I think that there is a lot of hype.
I say that these two guys will jump around the ring and not fight seriously.
Either way, both are getting PAID very well. And people will be suckered in to believe it will be a good fight.
I think that they are only fighting because it's Hyped up and publicity.
They don't really have "bad" blooded or Rivalry.
In addition, Oscar is probably not "mexican". He's like an Mexican-American. Manny is Fillipino. So, should Manny be teh Mexican-American destroyer now?
I predict that it they will just Jab jab jab and will be boring.
But I want Manny to knock oscar out.
Preditions:
1. Manny by knockout
2. Manny by Decision
3. Oscar upset decision
I don't think that Oscar can win by knockout or by unanimous decision or unbasiased decision.

If DLH doesn't bullshit and fight like he can, he should. He could easily handle his "speed" by keeping him at a distance with his bad ass jab and come under with uppercuts while moving to his left staying away from Pacquiaos own left hooks and nail him with his.
If money doesn't get too much in the way it should be a good fight.

I remember him talking trash about mexican fighters when he was just starting, basically trying to set himself apart from being, well, of mexican descent. That was a long time ago when he was the boxing's golden boy, now that he is well past his prime and no one gives a rat's ass about him in the US he is all about "hey Mexico, I'm fighting for you, plz root for me, kthnxbye" he has made appearances as a face for some mexican products and such.
Besides, he wears ladies undergarments

Meh I support mexican fighters to the max to be honest. In fact I hate Manny Pacquiao with a passion. Guy cant fight going backwards at all, but he has beaten all of mexico's best (with the exception of Juan Manual Marquez) and that bothers me. People like to call him the "Mexican Assassin" but whatever. Flips can love their countrymen and I can love mine. I just hope someone shuts down Pacquiao, just not De La Hoya.

Sorry man but you're facts are wrong.
First, Oscar is NOT a natural welterweight. (Welterweight is 147 pounds, to imply he is natural means he walks on a daily basis at 147 lbs. He is more like a natural Super Middleweight (168 lbs) He fought for undisputed Middleweight title and lost to Bernard Hopkins. (By a body punch LOL)
http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2004/09/19/oscardelahoya_wideweb__430x246.jpg
In contrast, Manny Pacquiao is a natural welterweight. It is safe to say that he walks around daily at 147-155.
Second, Manny is/became the current Lightweight champion when he beat David Diaz (135 lbs) he was previously the Super featherweight title holder (130 lbs). He moved up 5 lbs to beat David Diaz and he did so decisively. His next climb will be 12 lbs to Welterweight, effectively skipping Junior welterweight (140 lbs) (where Ricky Hatton owns the division)
Now Im not saying the jump isn't major because it certainly is. But the one thing Pacquiao doesn't lose in moving up is his speed. That will be a big decisive factor in the fight. If and when Pacquiao gets off first, he will win the fight. The only thing not tested is Manny's chin. With moving up in weight a persons power is drastically increased also. So look to see how Pacquaio holds up to De La Hoya's left hook. If he can take the punch, the fight is already over.
Prediction:
Pacquiao > De La Hoya TKO 9 round. (look for a knockdown by pacquaio by round 4)
Also look for this moment when Pacquaio wins:

Yep, sounds right to me.
The last few DeLa Hoya fights were just a glimps of how old and mature Oscar is. I mean, in the last fight he had, he was slow and Mayweather was it? that pretty much played around with oscar.
I think that Oscar has a better chance of winning the Latin Grammies than beating Manny.
It is not about race, it's about Manny is fresh and Oscar is old. This is like the Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Couture fight. Sure, like Couture and Oscar "were" good, it comes down to the fact that they cannot be "good" forever. Age is a factor and Manny is hungry.
Whoopti doo, Oscar isn't even like Mexican Mexican, he was born in East L.A. wow......and he denies his background too.
Manny is Fillipino and the Phillipines was dominated by the Spanish back in the day, and now How do you like them apples? A Flip owning all these Mexicans?
Manny is seeking revenge for his country. And one by one, they all fall. I dont' think Manny will throw the fight, TOO much PRIDE. I know Oscar can Sell out, or try and Sell out his Mariachi CD's at least.
I see Manny will walk through Oscar (If they fight legit and not dance around). If Manny loses, then there must be a bonus in it.
What are the odds? I thnk Manny is favorite. So if Manny loses, Vegas Makes bank and it just might happen.

True facts but you also can't play the age card either. Benard Hopkins showed age is not a factor in his domination of Kelly Pavlik. Boxing has been so shady for years and years it's so hard to believe in some of the fights sometimes. ESPECIALLY when there is so much money involved in a high profile match like this. It's desperate for quality bouts and so they try to arrange what they could to make "dream matches".
If DLH is in the shape he says he is and fights smart and with the skill he still has his size should win the bout for him. Manny is a natural at that weight yes, but Oscar is still bigger and I too will look for him to test his chin. Regardless it'll be a good bout, hopefully a great one.

True. Oscar will have to fight smart. We all know that Manny is in his prime and Oscar in the last 5 fights was (3wins and 2 loss). He has to last all 12 rounds and get good points.
I don't think it will go that far, or Oscar can last that long with Manny.
I think that Manny is in better shape. Remember that Mayweather fight? Oscar was super slow and old, sure he had a few quick squirts but Mayweather was toying with him and the Crowd went Crazy everytime Oscar did that, but that's just people who are Oscar fans.
Like the Chicago Bulls back in the 90's, and look at them now.
Oscar is like that. Manny will knock Oscar into retirement I hope.

Hopkins vs Pavlik doesn't count in my book. Hopkins showed first hand that styles make fights. Not to mention being a smart as hell fighter. Pavlik got first hand on the job training on how to box vs Hopkins.
Also here is some food for thought.
Actually EVERYONE watch for this.
Oscar will fight southpaw and
During the fight you will see Oscar try and do flurries to the body. (much like he did vs Mayweather) NONE will connect whatsoever. The only reason he does this is to look good for the judges.
Oscar is a natural southpaw yet fights conventional. Reason being a stronger jab and easy and strong left hook.

The question is.....if Manny has added 5-10 lbs, would this make him slower or fight differently?
If that is the arguement and if Manny's speed and power doesn't change, then for sure Manny is the better fighter.
If for some reason, Manny loses speed, and hits softer, which I doubt, then Oscar can win.

I dont think you understood me bro, i know oscar and manny walk around at a heavier weight, what i meant by natural weight classes was the weight classes these two fighters dominate, oscar is an extremely dominating fighter when he fights at 147, and pacman has had plenty of success around 130-135. yea i forgot he now is the lightweight champ after defeating diaz, but he didnt look good in that fight imo.
you also have to remember that oscar has never been knocked out, pacquiao has. sure oscar went down against b-hop, but of course everyone knows that was fake. a shot to the liver will definitely put you out, but that one didnt seem as flush.
in the end, it will come down to who came to fight, or pickup a paycheck.

Why fight margarito? Any businessman and boxer knows fighting margarito wont mean anything... There is no money to be had with margarito. Sorry but margarito is just a one trick pony. Anyone who can outbox and outwork him will win. Which is why Mayweather wouldnt give him the time a day. Margarito is overblown tbh.
Luckily he will be outboxed and outworked when he fights Sugar Shane Mosley. Maragarito will realise this when he loses the title in that fight.

ill agree with you that there wont be any $$ in fighting margarito, but if he wants to build a legacy and not just collect a paycheck fighting boxers out of their prime he will call out either hatton, prettyboy or one trick pony. nowadays, boxing is all about money and no longer pride. instead of fighting the best of the best, fighters no longer take risk and instead look to collect the biggest paycheck.

Just another false hope that advertisers want you to believe. Yeah, you save $10-15 bucks on the rebate, but you have to buy like $15-20 bucks of stuff. Great logic.
"Rebate coupons can be found on six-packs of Coke's Full Throttle energy drink and 18-packs of Tecate beer. Multiple coupons can be combined."
18 pack of Beer like like $15-20 bucks. and a 6 pack of Energy drink is like $15 bucks.

Well comparing MMA to Boxing is like apples and oranges. While I do like MMA I cannot stand the comparison. Because truly if you put fighters from each of the respective ranks and applied the sports rule set you would have entirely different fights.
For example: De la hoya and most professional boxers have a long and extensive amateur boxing backround consisting in over 100 fights. This pedigree which takes many years, often 10+ isn't something found in MMA.
In MMA, you have great fighters who have been fighting for many years buts lets be honest UFC started in 1993. Most fighters (exception being Royce Gracie, Ken Shamrock, Dan Severn) Do not have the amount of amatuer experience that professionals in boxing have. As a result, you have people who have been fighting for less then 10 years. Sure they are talented, but imagine if they had an extensive amateur career like such boxers.
Sure M.M.A. is fun and fast paced, yet for me I can't get over the 'sweet science' that is boxing. In M.M.A. a simple kick to the head or a punch to the face can end it. In contrast, boxers get punched in the face for a living and are required to go 12 rounds (Formerly 15)

If you say boxing is boring you just dont get it.
The sweet fucking science is right. its a fight with more rules. You want to see a real fight, watch an mma match.
I bet that Pac will drop him more than once and eventually stops him.
WAR MANNY.

Boxing not boring and you cannot compare MMA with Boxing, of course. Anyway, it seem like Oscar always loses to black guys:
All 5 of Oscar's career losses hve been to these 4 black guys. Interesting.

Oscar isn't even MEXICAN. HE's an American, born in East Los. He has Mexican background, but he's technically a Mexican- American, a Californian.

Yupp, looks "black" to me.
I don't think anybody said the guy was African American. He just said black, which typically denotes skin tone, not necessarily race or the person's country of origin.
Some Puerto Ricans look hispanic, some look black. Its an easy mistake to make. I don't see why people get so butthurt about that shit. lol
But whatever, perhaps I'm wrong for feeling this way. lol

If DLH doesn't bullshit and fight like he can, he should. He could easily handle his "speed" by keeping him at a distance with his bad ass jab and come under with uppercuts while moving to his left staying away from Pacquiaos own left hooks and nail him with his.
If money doesn't get too much in the way it should be a good fight.
mayweather would kick his ass. tonight will be a good fight, im going to take de la hoya by ko in the 6th round.
mayweather jr. and Pacquiao is a joke because Pacquiao would get his ass handed to him.

not true at all either.... I ve seen video shots where de la hoya was backing manny and advising him how to knock marquez that same night of the fight. He is a pro pacman and yes they are friends outside the ring.
Thats why I feel that De la HOya intentionally didnt do his massive attack on Pacman because I think he bet big on Pacman and acquiring it is to sacrifice himself to lose. Now he says "I just dont have it anymore" but yet in his pocket, he's got so much of the other to retire. just my 5 cents.i

pacmans weighing at 148 1/2 lbs.. is probably a better weight for him all around.. he was unoffically entering the ring at that weight.. and is a guy who naturally walks at near 150lbs.. which as you could see by last night had no effect on his speed or power....
now a fight with hatton or mayweather would give him a greater challenge.. i still think hes got the skills, speed power to come out on top..

I can't believe people still underestimate pacquiao!
I'm even more impressed with him now. he's fast and SMART. he knows he's overpowered and kept his distance for most of the fight, even when DLH was against the ropes he hesitated to go in for the kill. but man, it was an exciting to see a great fighter at work. he adapts to his opponent's style and uses it to his advantage. crazy agility and stamina, and he's got the perfect balance with speed and power.
he has single handedly put boxing back on the map. who remembers calazghe/jones from last month??
this dude is at the top of his game. I say bring on all challengers!

More like, 'oh shit i can't wait to knock him down.' Hatton can take a punch and much like Manny, he gets mad and gets into brawler mode. So look for some big punches going out in that fight. But rest assured, it will not be a easy fight. Filipino's will get to see how mortal their national hero actually is.
btw notice I said 'knock him down' I think both hatton and pacman will both go down in that fight. To be honest, it is too close for even me to predict an outcome. Both fighters are excellent and well their respective styles will make for an excellent fight. (Think Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns except this one will go 4+ rounds)

Mayweathers: Floyd wants to fight Pacquiao
by David Mayo | The Grand Rapids Press
Tuesday December 09, 2008, 12:08 AM
Press File Photos/Cory OlsenFloyd Mayweather Sr., left, said he and other members of his family received calls from Floyd Mayweather Jr. saying he's looking to fight again and get his father back in his corner.
GRAND RAPIDS -- Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants to fight again and has reached out to his father about returning in a training capacity after their estrangement for most of the last eight years, family members said Monday.
Janelle Mayweather, the boxer's cousin, told family members he called her early Sunday morning -- moments after Manny Pacquiao's stirring win over Oscar De La Hoya on Saturday night in Las Vegas -- and stated his hopes to fight again and reunite with his father.
"My niece said my son told her he wanted to fight Pacquiao next, and that he wants me to train him for the fight," Mayweather Sr. said.
Bernice Mayweather said she was not surprised to hear her grandson -- a five-division champion with a 39-0 record, who last fought Dec. 8, 2007 -- wants to return to the ring.
"I always said he was going to fight again," she said. "It was just a matter of time. He was waiting until the time is right. And the time is right. I knew he was going to come out of retirement -- he did it before, didn't he?"
Janelle Mayweather disclosed her conversation with Mayweather Jr. to family members Sunday at Bernice Mayweather's home on the southeast side. She did not return a telephone message seeking comment.
Latisha Starling, another cousin of the boxer's, also was at Sunday's family get-together.
Starling said she was on the phone with Janelle Mayweather throughout the Pacquiao-De La Hoya fight, "kind of giving her play-by-play."
"Right after the fight ended and I hung up, Janelle said her phone rang again and she thought it was me. But it was Little Floyd, saying he wanted to fight Pacquiao and he had to get in touch with his father," Starling said.
Fatimah Mayweather, the boxer's sister, also told family members she received a call from her brother, hoping to discuss resuming a working relationship with Mayweather Sr.
Leonard Ellerbe, the boxer's adviser, did not return messages seeking comment.
Mayweather Sr. molded his son's career until a string of disagreements led him to resign in 2001.
He subsequently became one of the most-sought trainers in boxing, while his son went on to become mythical pound-for-pound king under the tutelage of Roger Mayweather, Mayweather Sr.'s brother.
Mayweather Jr. may want to reunite the brothers as co-trainers, a relationship tested before the fighter's 12-round decision victory over De La Hoya last year, when Mayweather Sr. began training camp as interim trainer while his brother finished an assault sentence.
Mayweather Sr. left the camp soon after his brother's release.
Starling said Janelle Mayweather, in recounting to the family her conversation with Mayweather Jr., "said she asked Little Floyd, 'What happens to Roger if you do this?' and he said, 'Oh, there are enough millions to go around, they can both be in my corner.'"
Mayweather Sr. said his son's reaction may be emotional -- Pacquiao assumed the pound-for-pound mantle after Mayweather Jr. retired, and defended it with a sensational eighth-round technical knockout of De La Hoya in Las Vegas -- but added that, regardless the motivation, any resumption of their working relationship would require contractual security.
"I will never be dumbfounded by anything in my life again unless contracts are involved," he said. "At the end of the day, he's still my son, but I'd have to hold him accountable with a contract. I didn't have a contract first time but I never dreamed it would end like that, either."
However, he said money would not be the prinicipal consideration if he entered talks with his son.
"I don't need a whole bunch of money," he said. "I'm a wealthy man. I just need enough to accommodate me for the rest of my time on this earth."
Mayweather Sr. added that he also received a telephone call from his son early Sunday morning but his phone was off and the message was cryptic.
There's only one problem.
"He didn't leave his number," Mayweather Sr. said.
Hmmmmm... interesting.

makes me have love for pacquiao even more, watchin alot of things about him, he seems more down to earth/generous for his country, he loves to help out/donate, he seems very simple. i.e doesnt care about luxuries etc.. and everyone wants to fight him now.. well i think because they see it now that fighting him can be very profitable.

Pacman vs Pretty boy
Possibly the biggest boxing match in the history of forever?
For 2009 I want to see B-Hop vs Jones Jr. II, that would be a dream match.
