Wrong. 97 percent of all nissan CELs will not put the ECU into safe mode. A maf CEL and a CAS CEL will put it into safe mode.

You know your in safe mode when your engine wont rev over 2500 rpms. You can unplug your CAS or your MAF and get into safe mode.

Some CELs will do that though, although its not considered 'safe mode'. A CLT sensor going bad(which sometimes throws a code) will make your car run rich all the time. A Knock sensor code will pull timing and make your car have a lot less power.
