I got a door ding more than a year ago and it acutally took a chunk of paint off my car, smaller than a dime. But now its almost the size of a nickel. What i need to know is how do i stop it from pealing off more?

get some matching spray paint, tape off everything around it
coat it 3 times over a 20 minute period.

I did this to my front bumper and i cant even tell where it was dinged. just make sure not to spray too much or it will bleed

But look at the color of my car, its gonna be hard to find something my color. and do you mean regular spray paint? Or car touch up paint?

You can go to OReily's, AutoZone, PepBoys or a place like that who carries touch-up paint and give them your paint code & they should be able to match it to near perfection & mix a can of spray paint--it's pretty cheap. Keep in mind that the paint on your car has probably faded over the years (mine has--red sucks for age-fading), so the new paint may be just a tad bit darker. This would be the cheapest option.

Or, you could take it to a bodyshop--have any connections?--and have them mask it off & do it for you--most bodyshops should have the ability to match the current tone of your paint, instead of just using the paint code. I don't know how much this would cost, though.

i WILL TAKE A PIC TODAY AND PUT IT UP ONLINE AND SHOW YOU EXACTLY HOW BIG IT IS, tHE BODY SHOP TOLD me that they would have to repaint the whole back section because the chip is pretty bad. But any ways sorry for the caps, too lazy to go back and re do it, hahaa

mine was the size of a GOLF ball, and it wasnt even hit or dented. It looked like they didnt put any primer under it.

But then again, mine is black, and black is black, so you can't see it at all.

Whew! I thought I said something wrong & you were yelling at me. j/k

How much did the bodyshop quote you on repainting the section? I think they're kinda BS'ing you--they shouldn't have to repaint the entire back section (of course I'm not sure exactly where you're talking about on the car). They should be able to do a mask-off & spray & blend job. I should be able to tell more when ya get some pics.

I don't know much about touch-up jobs--the parts I've painted have been removed & completely repainted (like my lower front lip & my mirrors), but I may be able to give some advice. Hopefully ;)

Oh yeah, you cant see it in the picture, but it seems like the paint around the big chip is loose, its not stuck on the car. If i cant use a touch up paint to cover it up, i would at least like to stop the chipping from spreading.

Well, one way to stop the chipping is to go ahead and carefully crack away the loose paint that might be hanging there, get some clear finger nail polish and paint it on. This will help seal it up if nothing else, and stop it from chipping further.
My gf was nice enough to ram a new Saab two days after I bought my 98, and I did this to stop the spiderwebs from moving further on my front bumper. 4 months later, still fine. Hope that helps.
