View Full Version : Where is my oil leak? All oil out on garage floor

Yesterday I test drove my car around the block. Shortly after I parked it, this appeared on the garage floor.

Today I went to look, and the puddle has multiplied in size. It looks as if all the oil came out.

I know I need to replace the front main seal on my KA. After installing an aftermarket crank pulley, it has developed a severe leak.

However, could all this oil have come from just the front seal? It doesn't seem likely since it's located above the oil pan.

I'm guessing the pan must have a leak somewhere. Or could this much oil leak from anywhere else?

I haven't had time to get under the car yet, but I'm just trying to get some ideas for what to check.

Thanks ahead for any help!

Oil pan maybe scrape on something?

Sick new wheels. Man. So sick.

It's obvious that your car is a transformer and whilst battling the forces of Mustang-cons drag racing your oil pan was stabbed.

I will mourn dearly.

Doubt it's all from the leaky main seal.
Loose oil pan bolt or loose oil filter.
If not, then I would be expecting something catastrophic.

well from the looks of the picture im gonna guess its comming from somewhere in engine.

What about that oil pan sitting next to the wall? that suppose to hold the oil.

lol Im just messing with you, we'd need somthing more than just a picture of oil on the floor comming from the engine bay.

get on the ground and look, probably a loose oil drain plug, or yeah maybe you dented the oil pan, TAKE A LOOK.

oil pan, check the seal around the pan. or oil can leak out from your oil sensor that's what happen to me once.

rear main seal too maybe

I doubt rear main. It's possible, but that's not the first thing I'd guess.

There's lots of stuff on the right side. The oil filter housing thing that connects to the block has tons of places that could leak.

But I think something was loose, if not, I'd be worried. My first instincts are oil filter itself, a hole in the oil pan, or the drain plug.

When my front main seal was leaking bad, it would only leak with the engine ON. When the car was off, there was no leak.

Only time I've seen a car still run and loose that much oil was when the oil filter was loose/wrong filter used and, loose drain plug.

^^^ yea probably have a double gasket on the oil filter. unscrew it and check the filter and feel on the block itself if it peeled off and stuck from the previous filter

After getting dirty searching for a leak, I noticed that one of the wheels was parked on the edge of a tray that's under my car, causing all the fluids to pour out of it.

Owned hahaha.

You usually fill the tray with kitty litter or absorbent mats. Easier to spot the leak too.

I know someone who changed their oil and forgot to put the drain plug back on...

I know people who put the plug in, but either don't tighten it, or leave out the washer...

Obviously nothing good comes from that.
