I couldn't give more than 1/4 throttle in 5th and i was only going 40mph.

Seriously?
Dude.
Driving in the pouring rain is fine. Good tires, alignment and just keeping aware is the key.
keep good distance between you and the others as well.
And dont release the throttle in the middle of a corner when you got a 2 way/welded...let me tell you....youll wake up quickly

First time I drove my S14 was across a mountain pass in the driving snow. It was not much fun.
Rain is OK though, we get plenty of here so we've had the practice!

I know what rain is like. Up here in Seattle WA....dang man. Lol. The freeways here are so rutted as well...let got of the steering wheel and your car drives itself practically.
I drove home this morning from work in freezing fog..now that's bad cause the road can be frozen in some places where you don't expect it...yikes

Man first time i drove my s13 in the rain I had bald tires and I mean bald right down to the wire lol I was hydroplaning and fishtailing I was like FUCK THIS I took the street. What would have been a normal 30min drive on the freeway turned into a hour and 15min drive. DAME YOU RAIN

x2!
Except it's my gf instead of my mom.
I'm happy as can be on rainy days.
Drive slightly slower, but don't really panic like 95% of people in Cali.

Hence the catch 22. Most people on here buy a welded diff because they don't have money. What makes you think they can afford new tires and an alignment?
Daily driving a welded diff sucks ass imo. A 1.5 or 2 way made quiet with some cusco diff oil or friction modifier is much better.

I daily my welded diff/SR. It ain't too bad, just drive cautiously. On good feddie's I drive normal speed, till a turn comes up then I just coast. Be safe out there.:bigok:
open-diff ( till my s15 hlsd is in )
RT-615's
I have no problems driving it in the rain, I have to purposely loose traction for the most part
if you feel yourself start to get some wheel spin, take your foot off the gas, and straighten the car out till you get traction.
VROOOM
11-26-2008, 09:53 AM
my car did fine. i just kept seeing that traction control light lighting up.
rain + fwd + traction control = awesome.

Driving an Open and a welded is a whole different story when you slide .... Trust me I know... especially mid corner... The welded comes out MUCH faster.
But I don't mind driving in the rain, it really helps my skills, the worst part is how other drivers react in the rain not me.... That is usually the biggest worry on my part and of course driving behind semi's suck bad...

Ditto on everything but the snow. I moved to socal from the San Francisco bay area. First thing I noticed is how people can't drive for shit the minute it rains. It cracks me up. No fail every time it rains there are accidents everywhere. I saw no less than three on the way home from Northridge last night.
To the Socal boys, rain is your friend. It teachs you how to drive without wasting tires. Though I suggest you guys you run some tires that at least have some tread lol and work if even somewhat in the rain. Thats one of the reason I love Falken ST115's they work good in the dry and they hold decently in the wet.

I second that....
But seriously, just be safe when you are driving at higher speeds. I'm running a Tomei 2-way, with 3 degrees of camber in the rear, and pretty stiff coilovers, and my tires always slip. I'm not too worried about turning corners, but really stiff suspension will cause you to skip over bumps on the freeway, and you can lose traction fast.

Plus in addition to being totally stupid in the wet, so many have bald tires, and wipers that have been on their car since it was new.
Everytime it rains, I end up passing a Ford SUV on its roof facing traffic. It's stupid out here. People panic if it's not sunny.

like everyone else have said.. good tires and a good alignment.
i drive almost the same when it does not rain, its just driving habits that can do you harm.
ive learned to drive the speed limit in my car, with welded, coils, sways, and etc.

I don't like driving at the rain at all. crashed twice because hydroplaning (difficult to anticipate sometimes). once b/c I foolishly tried to 'master' wet driving by anticipating how much the car would slide at certain corners, at certain speeds. Did this on a empty, wide, windy mountain road (sepulveda). Was a civic with conservative alignment, good azenis 215's. I did ok until I hit a hairpin then went wrong, and slid a lot more than I thought I would.
With the 240, I once hydroplaned very bad even following the flow of traffic. No accident, but it was scary. I just don't drive it all when its raining. I can't drive in the rain period.
now I take my evo instead the 240 out when it's pouring. has good dunlop z1's, but I'm still terrified and drive like 50mph. Wouldn't mind to do an autoX in the rain to really test out my car's safe limits in a relatively harmless situation.

driving in the rain is fun. i love the rain. and i love driving my car in the rain. i dont slide my cars around anywhere, i just like driving in it. good alignment, viscous, good wipers, and good tires with plenty of tread. safe. i was going pretty fast this morning, not a single problem. just have to be aware, and keep a little distance from other cars, and dont be a dumb ass driving, swerving everywhere. just stay in one lane, and if you want you can follow a car and stay within the same path they are driving since they would have just kicked out most of the water on the ground infront of you.

240+Rain+20psi of boost+RT615=Fun!!! I still drive 75-80 on the highway in the rain.
In the WRX I do not even notice wet roads.
I don't care what the roads are like i drive thru all of it. Rain doesn't scare you when your used to ice 5-6months of the year. Shit, Im going to go screw around this winter in the snow with the 240!
however, i do not like to drive in thunderstorms at night.

usually i love driving in the rain (i'm on a 2-way btw) but on the autobahn in the rain...not so much. i nearly shat myself on the way home from a friend, 3AM, tired as fuck and one hell of a downpour. not a very good combo.
a few months ago i put on new tires, ever since then it's a little safer. i had some feddys before and damn, they suck in the rain.

It's funny, you really can tell the horrible drivers from the decent ones.
I've driven all types of rear ends/motor setups with different tires and amounts of thread.
I was always in control. The ONLY time my rear end would come around, was when I wanted it to and gassed heavily.
Maybe you guys should go to a track event in the rain.
Seems like you have a lot to learn.

When it's raining, you slow down and don't make smooth inputs, don't shift during turns, and don't shift too agressively.
