View Full Version : shock bolts removal problem!

I just bought brand new shocks and springs for my worn out suspension and i've been trying to install them my self but theres one big problem i can't seem to get the two lower bolts off the shock connecting it to the suspension, I've tried penetrating oil and WD-40 and went at it with an Impact wrench but they still don't come out . Has anyone else had this problem?? :goyou:

By two lower bolts I assume your talking about front strut, make sure your using 6 point socket and use the impact from the nut side not the bolt use a wrench to hold the bolt head. Also you have to get an alignment asap after you change everything out. and be sure to drive much after you change unless you just going straight to the alignment place.

6 foot breaker bar gets everything off.
also don't forget to use the torch.

I'm guessing the nuts are already off? I've had a few cars do that, the bolt seizes into the spindle from corrosion. Go ahead and order new bolts and start beating the old ones with a hammer, the ends will crown and make them worthless. The last one I did I ended up taking the spindle off completely and hitting the bolts with a 48" sledgehammer before they broke loose. Maybe you'll be luckier, but it's a common thing to happen. Sand the spindle holes out really well once they're free and dip the bolts in a little grease, keeps it from happening again.

mm.. maybe that's why, Im not using a 6 point socket i used the multi point star kind.. I'll see if i can get my hands on one.. thanks dude..:)

I'm sorry i should of been more specific about that ,but the nuts and bolts are still on . they won't loosen

failing that, use a socket that is 1 mm smaller. if it is really stubborn heat the nut to expand nut and break rust bond. hit with hammer etc
