View Full Version : Eating more Soup because of Economy?
http://cache.gawker.com/assets/images/consumerist/2008/11/cocksoup.jpg
You know who is making money despite the total eclipse of your 401k? Campbell Soup Company. That's right. When you're broke — you eat soup. But which soup should you eat?
Consumer Reports tests soup, and they've reported that the Original Soup Man (yes, the guy from Seinfeld), which costs $3 for a single cup, made the tastiest but not exactly the cheapest chicken soup. Campbell's Select Chicken With Egg Noodles ($1.32 a cup), was only "good" because of its "slightly sour, fatty mouthfeel" and "mushy vegetables."
Sounds delicious.

Progresso even though they are like $2.99/can. Mostly Chicken with Wild Rice or Campbell's Chicken and Dumplins if you want a creamy white sauce (no homo lol).
Oh yeah, if I'm on the street Wonton Soup ($1.10)

lol seriously, soup is just about the easiest (and arguably most economical) of things you can make. just throw a bunch of stuff in the pot and let it simmer. recipes are all over the internet.

As far as the OP subject. It's cold outside and soup warms you up. I love soup and ramen this time of year. Wish they didn't have so much salt in them though.
Ramen noodles here. It's $0.15 a packet. We can survive for like 1 month (all 3 meals) on the stock we have right now.

Get Progesso at Costco its like $1.00 a can in 12 packs. Progresso just straight up blows Campbells right out of the water. Otherwise if your out Pho is some of the cheapest. Followed closely by Thai soups and Chinese soups.

I've been "making" some rig up soups recently. Fry some chicken and onions, boil some chopped potatoes and pasta. Add chicken noodle soup mix and water. Voila! Cheap and yum
