I've searched and searched and can't really find the answers I'm looking for. I am curious to see if any SR guys have done forged pistons on stock rods or if that is a recommended combination at all. The SR rods are very strong from what I understand and it's the pistons that are the weaker link out of the 2. I've been told 20 psi and above on stock pistons is really alot of cylinder pressure for the stock pistons and I'd like to run 22-24 psi on race gas from time to time at the track. Realistically my HP goals are around 350 daily, but maybe around 425 or so on race gas. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Personally, if you can afford it, why not do both. Eagle rods can be had for roughly $300 nowadays. Also, 20 PSI dont really mean anything since its not PSI that the turbo produce dictates the compression of the engine. 20 PSI on a T28 is not gonna be the same from a GT40 turbo. So when you say 20 PSI, figure out first what turbo you're getting. But in all really, for 350hp daily to 400hp on race gas, a GT2871R .86 trim should be able to hit those numbers with proper tuning.
But in all reality, with that low of a power goal, a stock rebuild will be adequate...only reason I would rebuild is because SR bearings are always suspect to me. If an SR goes bad, its usually due to a bad oil pump or detonation, fucking up the rod bearings.

I rebuilt mine with stock rods and arp rod bolts knowing I'll keep the rpm's sub 8k. Pistons are nice insurance knowing it'll take abuse from shitty tunes.
New bearings (no need to go crazy here, clevitte>OEM$$), oil pump (OEM), timing components (OEM) and a solid clean build will take you where you need to be.

Sorry I forgot to mention my current setup. I'm running HKS 264 step 1, peakboost top mount, T3/T04E 50 trim, 740cc, peak performance valve springs, Enthaply ECU. I installed all of this stuff about 3 months ago and the car ran for one week and then blew. I just got it apart today and #2 cylinder's ring lands are destroyed. Not sure was cause the motor to go and I'm not blaming it on the ECU, but this time around I think i'm going with a standalone.
Also, with these HP goals in mind, and the car not being daily driven, I'm wondering if OEM bearings are suffice, or if I should go with ACL or something. I'm also wondering about going w/ 9.0:1 compression but I honestly don't know enough about it to make a decision on my own. Again, any input is greatly appreciated.

get a set of pistons. stock rods should be good to 400hp easy. ring land problem is somewhat common. ive seen a few. some were due to abuse others due to shitty tune.
i dont trust eagle rods. i have always used carillo rods. awesome products. i currently have a set of JUN rods in my SR. the only reason i went with them because i got the set for under 500 bucks. the JUN rods im pretty sure are made by carillo anyways or another big manufacturer.
