BMWs 09 chassis.. take into consideration that rules have changed for 09.. reduced downforce and the return of slicks (i know those dont look like typical slicks but i guess they are*

"It's sexy isn't it," Klien joked when asked about his opinion of car new car. "For me it's the worst looking F1 car I've ever seen. It just doesn't look like it fits, with big wings and everything. But we will get used to it and a lot of things will change.
Formula One news: 'This is the worst looking F1 car ever!' - GPUpdate.net Formula One (http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/news/2008/11/18/this-is-the-worst-looking-f1-car-ever/)

His team mate Robert Kubica agreed with Klien. The Polish driver said: "We all agree that it is not the best looking car, but fortunately from the inside it looks better than the outside. The car's characteristics are completely different now with reduced downforce, but with the slicks we regain some of that grip. The car has more drag, so it is a bit slower on the straight. Here in Barcelona we're now just testing some basic stuff so we can get as much data as possible."

I cant wait to see what the Ferrari and Mclaren chassis look like... also i wanna see what the lower competitors pull up.

Just to give you an idea, heres what the 08 bmw looked like

alot more fins/wings etc

I actually think majority of the modern F1 cars look ugly.. the early-mid 90s had some gorgeous cars.. then the 60s had the greatest looking ones though imo.

Jordan 191 has to be one of my favorites.. even tho it wasnt too successful, it was very smooth looking.

F1 has been a rollercoaster of regulations as of late... the engine dev. freeze, getting slicks back, etc etc

Slicks will be nice, they'll be ripping those corners even harder. I guess the slicks thing is to account for the no traction control ish

since F1 isnt that big in the US, i usually get my f1 info on GPUpdate.net - Every day updated Formula One news! (For Formula One news, results, photos and more!) (http://f1.gpupdate.net/en/)

Races are usually broadcast live on speed tv, expect to have races at like 4am etc etc.. but they usually reboardcast them later in the day. The season starts again in march.

I only been seriously watching for the past 2 years since i got cable.. The old Fuji TV *japan* tv intros are sick, sorta anime like, gets you hyped to watch it. The Speed broadcast dont have anything like that but still good, usually pre-race programing and debriefs.

Would watch alot of old era f1 on youtube and read up on wiki to get background info on past teams/drivers.

theres soo much behind f1 that its fun to watch, soo much background stories going on.. *in geek terms, think of an anime where there are rivals who want to conquer the world*, where as the characters are the teams/drivers, and each one is trying to outdo the other...

rad. when i ordered cable i specifically made sure we'd get speed, which apparently is in expanded basic now. it used to be like sports tier or some shit. i dunno cable is retarded.

what could i be watching right now? when does rally happen?

F1 was usually broadcasted at 8am on Fridays and Saturdays on the East Coast of the US, and race days start at 7:30am with a half hour of Acura Pre-Race show, where they interview the drivers, Team Principles, Celebs, etc before the roll off at 8am.

The broadcast team for Speed Channel is actually a good one, since Steve Matchet (sp?) used to be a mechanic for the Benneton Team I think, and David Hobbs used to be an F1 driver himself, so they know exactly what's going on.

I just wish that Bright House would carry Speed Channel in HD already, because there are only a couple of races that are broadcast on Fox, which is the only time I get to watch the race in HD, and even then, those are tape delayed and they don't show any of the interviews or anything at the end. Not as much of an "experience" as watching the entire race from pre-race to post-race on Speed Channel.

HyperTek
12-09-2008, 02:56 PM
yeah the fox broadcast sucks imo since it lacks in depth/ behind the pitwalls content. I like the speed channel guys, they do a good job at giving the audience an idea of what is going on etc. like how Matchet will instantly recognize car failure from suspension etc etc. Its funny though how since they are just fed the broadcast and commentate over it, how sometimes the actual F1 broadcast crew will show a clip and the announcers will be like "ok what are they showing us" etc

I like that Bob guy being the main commentator, hes easy to understand and breaks things down simply lol.

did they have TC this year .... o was in throw out at the end of 07

HyperTek
12-09-2008, 03:21 PM
they threw it out after 07.. =D

And with the revisions for 09, hopefully this will bring costs down for F1 teams, and with the aero changes, allows cars to travel closer behind each other instead of having to be spaced out for clean air.. So should get some pretty close racing.

Hopefully someone will purchase the Honda team, supposibly it might be Prodrive that might pick em up.

Ferrari presents 2009 contender
12 January 2009 / Photos

The Ferrari Formula 1 team presented its new car for the 2009 season on Monday morning. Felipe Massa will complete the first laps with the F60 car later today, at the Mugello circuit in Italy.

The F60, breaking the trend of Ferrari's naming of its car models by the year, is the first contender to be launched ahead of the new season which kicks of in Australia in March. Until yesterday the F60 was to be launched at Ferrari's other test track, Fiorano, until unfavourable weather conditions saw plans altered.

The main differences in comparison to the 2008 car see a higher and wider front wing to meet the rule changes affecting aerodynamics for 2009, as well as a rear wing which is shorter but taller than its predecessor to allow greater airflow and more downforce during races, meaning competitors should be able to run closer together on track and therefore present them with more passing opportunities. The Ferrari is also the first car to be launched doning the Bridgestone slick tyres; this will be the first season the Japanese tyre manufacturer has produced its rubber minus grooves.

The 2009 launches will continue later this week, starting with Toyota who reveal their new car on Thursday.

Not bad, not as ugly as that BMW concept a few months back.. surely it will be a design you grow to like, esp since the last few years looked like something out of a robo anime series lol

mclaren looks best imo but i dont like hamilton
so ferrari ftw but still i prefer the 08s

1 thing i'd like to add tho.. i dont follow f1 religiously but i dont get y they're making tonnes of new rules to slow ppl down (it doesnt seem like its abt safety).. arent we supposed to improve n achieve faster times through years n years of r&d?

HyperTek
01-22-2009, 01:01 AM
thats the thing, the last f1 cars, had crazy advancements that 1.) it got borring for people to watch because whoever has the best car wins. 2.)it takes tons of cash to build the better car 3.) the air behind those cars traveling at high speeds is soo disturbed that you cant follow them too closely.

The audience has been getting turned off with all the computer assisted driving/traction controls, and only the top teams winning because they have the most money to spend on developing a better car after each race.. Despite the sport has grew alot this past few years.

A few teams have dropped out due to lack of funding for a competitive car.. Teams that dont produce results loose their sponsorships.

The new rules have been made to bring back that era when there was spectacular racing, all driver skills without the aid of millions in car development over the rivals.

^^eh, it's the way of mclaren. that's why i lol'ed when raikkonen left for ferrari and immediately won the world championship that year. personally, i think hamilton is going to have a shit season this year, because there have been those people (myself included) who've said that hamilton won't be able to make a slow car fast, and it looks more and more like mclaren has a slow car this year. they sold out last year to develop the 2008 car for hamilton to have the best shot at the championship, and so their 2009 challenger is probably 6-8 months behind on development as compared to the other teams.

…Honda made a huge blunder by selling the team over the winter. After the disastrous years of 2007 and 2008 their decision to throw all their efforts into the 2009 campaign would have been vindicated.

…Their livery won’t stay plain white for long. Plenty of people have suggested that their stunning pace in testing was achieved because they were running light in a bid to attract sponsors. But would they really waste so much of what little testing opportunity they had to post artificial lap times?

Recession or no, there’s an F1 car that looks like being a race winner hammering around with no sponsors on it. Form an orderly queue…

…Button versus Barrichello will be a fascinating battle. Button was largely the quicker of the two in 2006 and 2007, but Barrichello had the upper hand last year.

They also had some very close fought duels, such as at Fuji, but because they were going on at the back of the pack they didn’t get much attention.

…It’s terrible news for McLaren. For as long as they’ve had Mercedes engines they’ve never had to share them with another team.

Now, in the first year Mercedes are supplying other teams (Force India as well as Brawn GP), McLaren are lagging behind a team which spent two months of the off-season looking like it might not exist. Not good for the defending world champion’s team.
If Brawn GP really are that fast… | Brawn GP | F1 Fanatic - The Formula 1 Blog | F1 video | F1 pictures | F1 news | Lewis Hamilton | Fernando Alonso (http://www.f1fanatic.co.uk/2009/03/13/if-brawn-gp-really-are-that-fast%E2%80%A6/)

well i cant wait for the opening race, ill be a night owl and try to catch most of em..

i do think mclaren slipped up on the car developement.. they been sleeping on it while everyone was early testing, remember how they where still testing the car with the 08 spec rear wing etc... they probably should have concentrated more on the full package at the same time instead of front nose piece first/one at a time etc.

Also was thinking that the top teams are down tuning their cars to spec, where as the lower teams where probably more closer to the new regulations with their existing chassis, esp hondas ex cars, like it was more of a natural transition for them.

I bet Brawn GP's 2010 car will either suck balls cuz by then, they need to produce their own car *per rules of a buy out* or it will be a carry over prior season chassis modded..
