Look for the car in an upcoming issue of Modified Magazine with my artwork printed all over it. Rad!

This will go on the Hood/Bonnet

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v46/om1kron/spartan1.jpg

This will run along the side of the car, not sure if it was supposed to go on both sides, spear should cut off into the fenderwell if they cut it how I intended it to go on.

Both took me an estimated time of 6-8 hours start and finish to draw and color in photoshop, I wish I knew how to use photoshop a bit more, I think I may try to learn corel painter once I start taking drawing serious again. I did this for shits and giggles in response to a premie thread.

So lets see the type of response this will get once people see the artwork in a national publication?

oh who is Lisa Klassen?
Rallye Star! (http://www.rallyestar.com/)

anyway she thinks the art is super rad and it's exactly what she wanted, so I'm happy.

anyone else here draw?

I have more of my old stuff up at onethirtyseven's gallery (http://onethirtyseven.blogspot.com)

awesome work, not sure if i'll like them on the car but sweet job nonetheless.

it's what she wanted, lol this is why I am not an artist for hire, I normally feel the things people want me to draw suck, unless I have complete creative control of the direction of the artwork. Otherwise I wont be interested in the subject matter and would be a very poor and snobby artist lol.

Sweet you were in the Ryman program too. I dropped out on account of laziness and my parents didn't feel like driving so far. Did you go to any art schools afterwards?

I can already tell from the menu layout he's using corel photo painter... I want to get that!

As far as any other art school, no. I spent so much time dicking around in high school and drawing during class that I jepordized graduating with my class back in 1998. So I stopped drawing, didn't do a portfolio for that year and went to night school and did ROP my whole senior year. I dropped out of sports and took up more electives and required classes. It sucked!

I turned down an art scholarship to Art Center of Pasadena, I think the art institute of Maryland or something sent me some paperwork as well but yeah Maryland, no thanks lol.

Ryman program was awesome though, I really felt talentless after seeing how good the other students were. There was this kid in my class, mexican dude, couldn't speak a lick of english but he could draw his ASS OFF I hated him. =(

Yeah, had this really grungy lookin asian girl that looked like she was tripping 24/7. She could do photorealistic stuff that just blew me away. Nowadays I just doodle in my book and struggle to finish college.

I did the work for free. I do tech support for a living for a large financial company that isn't in the banking industry lol. So artwork stuff is shits and giggles work here and there.

I dunno what was original about it to begin with, they requested a spartan throwing a spear on the side of her car and then decided she wanted a shield on the hood that said the phrase drawn on it.

I figured since it was a girl it would've made more sense to have like a hot warrior chick on her car or something more original, but she wanted a man, a spartan, yada ya!

and for whomever mentioned the 300 reference I hope you know that Spartans existed in history way before frank millers comic book which doesn't accurately depict that event in history either. But it's something you can relate to and other people will think is badical I guess.

I would've been much happier drawing a sexy valkarie warrior, even with her own face on it.

the phrase on the shield is a direct quote from 300

Give them nothing! But take from them everything!

LOL oh, well then haha I hate that movie so I couldn't quote anything from it besides.

"THIS IS SPARTA" *foot to chest*

the rest of it was a drunken blur, because I was.... drunk.

Nobodies hating, so no worries, I looked up greek lettering and the font I found was the best readable interpretation I could provide.

The guy that owns this sticker shop, Altered Image on the boards (http://www.aigraphix.com/girlie.html) asked in premie if someone was willing to do the work for free, since he in fact was offering a sticker sponsorship and some dick cheese could've easily charged 200 bucks for the work I did. Sad but true, I never know what to charge people because I feel my work should be worth what someone is paying. So I normally will always do the first item for free, and charge for additional work. But since I don't advertise my services and I already have a line of close family and friends who will jump down my neck if they find out i'm doing commisions.

I didn't even want the press for the work, but I figured since modified magazine will be shooting the car with my artwork on it and hopefully it's a cover car. I think that will be pretty rad to have in my portfolio of things I've done in my life artwise, something like that is priceless to someone who is a hobbyist rather than a professional graphic artist.

So it was a fun project, I didn't have to rack my brain to come up with the material, and I didn't spend a month making it perfect since it's going to get blown up and it's a sticker and not something you're going to hang in your room.

Plus my name should be in the credits of contributors to the car, if not I wont cry. I know I did the work, and have been thanked personally by the person receiving the artwork. That's payment enough for me!

Kind of like you guys that drift for fun and not for formula d.

lol

Spartans are badass.

The artwork itself is badass too... But seeing that on the side of a car is a little too Fast and Furious part 1 for me.

Reminds me a little too much of

UfoZ8myCow
11-17-2008, 11:34 PM
Yeah Troy Lee did all the designs on the sides of the cars in part 1.

I mean, they reflected what was "cool" at the time in the show scene I guess so it wasnt too bad. Looking at them now though makes me wanna barf.

^^i dunno if its because i was younger back then, but i feel like the whole import scene was more appealing back then... now its like meh cuz everyones into it and played out with more stupid/tacky stuff lol

then again, everything seems to be better when your younger compared to when youve been around it for a while lol

I think the Jetta is past the point of ever being able to be cool... But all the other ones would be pretty tight if they were just updated a bit in their looks (ie get rid of the 1998 graphics, better fitting wheels, less retardo color combinations).

That 96 Maxima is actually pretty dope... Vortech supercharger under the hood. Would make a nice sleeper/daily driver.
