Has anyone tried to build an electric drift car? If someone does it right it could be an awesome car because there is instant torque. Like has someone played around with one of those telsa roadsters?
Just a random queston...
some big name drift team should make one lol...

i try to think of ideas for an electric drift car from time to time. Instant torque is nice, but the torque isn't that much from the motors the Tesla Roadsters have. I've researched the type of motors they use and to buy one of those is very very costly. As of now, it is cheaper to build an internal combustion engine.

That would be interesting. It will probably happen in the near future. Don't they have a hydrogen one?

There has been talk of this around the FD paddock and Tanner Foust has driven a Tesla for the television show where he beats on rich peoples cars for no good reason.
I know that from what Tanner has said "it drifted well". However, the transmission is the weak link on those cars. It will be awhile before team can put together an electric program.
I am not sure how exciting it would be to watch a drift car that made almost no noise???

Well there has been an electric 240sx in existance for some time, and I remember it being pretty fucking quick on the strip. However, I couldnt see it being much of an advantage in drifting because of the shear weight. Electric cars require massive batteries which weigh quite a bit.
Since drifting is heavily influenced by weight transfer I would imagine the car would be extremely hard to control. I also couldnt imagine throwing $100,000's of expensive equipment around at such a high speed, with even the remote possibilty of hitting something.
I honestly think your idea is just that...an idea.
Dont hold your breath.

ya but batteries have become lighter and lighter. I just like odd car I guess, can someone post a link to check out the electric s13? Electric cars do awesome on the drag strip because of all the torque.

IMO I think its stupid. First of all the cost's of battery's for it would be crazy and the weight from all the batteries would be alot.
