Removing s14 rear deck (metal)

has anybody removed the rear speaker deck on a s14?
Does it affect the rigity of the chassis if you pull it out completely?

I have a s14 that had damage to the sheetmetal underneath the rear window. The one that the speakers mount to.. The glass was broken as well, so i decided to pull the glass and drill out the spot welds. I am about half way completed with this, and i am wondering if some slight reinforcement is needed, or not. I am doing a full roll cage, and its already stitch welded through the strut towers, and into trunk. I am planning on building a custom fiberglass schroud that will go where the rear panels and seats would go.

I know that the sheetmetal doesnt weigh much, but I didnt just want to bang it back into place with a hammer.. I wanted to fix it right :bash::bash:

Well, if your gonna cage it and not planning on putting back the stock glass on it, then I dont see not having it there, hurt anything.

i wanted to keep stock glass in rear...

The place where the glass mounts isnt damaged. There was just a unfortunate accident that led to a baseball bat being smashed through the rear window and bending the rear speaker deck..

I would say if a baseball bat bent it, then it probably isn't providing much structure or rigidity. lol

Seriously though with a cage you should be fine, you could even throw in the rear strut bar.

Flybert did this in an s13 coupe, I think they built some buckwild shit to replace or reinforce that area with afterward however.

na.. girl took the camera..
and she had hit the car about 10 times or so in that area.. and hit the version select kit i just bought a few times. Kinda got mad i have been spending more than double on the car that i have been spending on her.. Now that its all said and done im glad she is gone..

Here's what we did with mine. Should be able to fit way more wheels back in there. Ditched the trunk springs as well. We stitched across the seam up top as well. The whole thing is nice and rigid still.

on a s14 i would say just get a rear strut bar like what was mentioned before.

na no hittin with the bat.. just ended it.. car is in garage.. she cant hurt it anymore.. Just need new headlights, hood, fenders, rear window, windshield, fix the damage here, and im done. YAY!

i had planned on a kouki conversion. It was gonna come after i finish the ls2 swap, but now that all my shit is jacked up it just moves it up further in the plans. Got a windshield and rear window already from a local junkyard, And now i am to go to work on the decklid and finish... Just need to go borrow a welder from a buddy...
