View Full Version : had my car tuned and dynoed (pics)

Brought the car to dsg in mass for tuning. It only made 355whp guess the cometic h/g was giving them issues and was causing the coolant system to over pressurize so they couldnt tune it to its max power. Great people at dsg and they deffinitly know what there doing. Car was great on the ride home nothing was noticably wrong and it felt very strong, but it turns out the cas bolts must not have been tight enough and backed out for the ride home i didnt realize it untill we got to autozone and popped the hood my friend pointed it out. i was just kind of in shock that i made it all the way home without it popping out or anything :tweak: lol . So some of the ride home the timing was off i didnt think anything about it just assumed everythign was normal cause it just got tuned and all but now im sort of nervous that i might have put that motor through some serious abuse on the way home with the timing all f'd up. i checked on the power fc commander what the max value was for knock it hit 88 max i think. i bought new bolts and set the timing again and then made sure everything was all good the knock level never ran over ~7 after we fixed it. Also just picked up an apexi HG after doing some research seems like everyone has good things to say about them.

Anyways what do you guys think about those knock levels i mean the car still runs fine so i imagine it did no damage but im still afraid to pull the head off cause of what i might see haha. After the hg repair i should be able to get it tuned to its full potential which is hopefully around the 400-450 mark

keep in mind also that Dyno Dynamics dynos read average of 13% lower than say like a dynojet... so if you are just looking for #s, remember that.

I own a Dyno Dynamics myself and have to explain to customers all the time about the "numbers" game.

gippy87
10-23-2008, 03:23 PM
I also try to explain that to people as well when they tell me there car made more at same boost. Anyways the 400hp I'm shooting for, according to dsg, is atainable with my setup on their dyno dynamics :) 355 felt insane and I'm happy with it but if I can safely push another 50hp with the head gasket sealing properly that would be cool.

How do you check max knock on the commander? Ive been trying to figure that out.

gippy87
10-23-2008, 04:36 PM
if you want to see the highest it's been you go to monitor and choose knock then push the up arrow and it will display the highest it's been and if you push right it resets the values. Correct me if I'm wrong I'm fairly new to the power fc myself but I'm pretty sure that's it

*We are getting about 400-420 wheel hp on dyno dynamics with me Tuning.

We also have a dyno dynamics.

Same exact setup, on two cars both at that levels...

I totally understand what you mean with the numbers game Brian.

A lot of people (especially with 2871R bolt ons) expect high numbers and then get frustrated when instead of 400whp, they see 300 or 320 at 16 psi, it's hard to explain that a dyn dymanics is a completely different way of measuring output, but a MUCH better way to actually tune the car to be faster and make realy ROAD power.

Yea dsg aslo told me with my setup the cars usually make 400-420hp on the DD's dyno but my car deffinitly has a h/g issue hopefully once fixed it will make higher numbers

Yeah I would fix that immediately, no bueno for your deck/head/cylinders.

Do yourself a huge favor and stop using cometic hg for your type of setup.

Apexi, PE or Tomei and make sure the deck is mirrored

10-23-2008, 08:23 PM
yea when i started building the motor i really didnt know the difference other then the prices so i went with the cometic what a mistake. I really dont want to have to tear the motor down to get the block decked to a mirror finish any other options for the block?

gippy87
10-26-2008, 02:47 PM
Try one more time :) When i pull the head off and remove the old gasket is there anything i can do to the block other then the razor blade to prep it for the new gasket. Asuming it needs no resurfacing.

What a sweet setup :bigok: I want it!! What size injectors are you running? Other than the cams, is your head stock?

but

damn you need some serious zilvia.net lessons on looks

Yep, you need about 50 lbs of fiberglass "aero" and 327 more zipties holding it together to get a thumbs up on Zilvia.

Car looks good man - Nice clean ride with some good parts on it.

Cool setup, I've been waiting to see someone running the Tial housing. Seems kinda laggy from that dyno, what RPM do you get full boost at?

"Moar aero!!!" lol

only on zilvia is it cool to have a stock motor with paint/bodykit, but totally uncool to have a nice SS vband turbine 30R setup with a stock body

I've been around long enough that threats from 17 year old internet tough guys don't mean much to me. So go get emo somewhere else kid. :naw:

But yea, like the guy said, get the zipties out and toss on some aero.

I like u Steve and all that ( no homo) but i do not agree on that, i call it THE TUNER... no the dyno.. can be a dynojet or dynamic or mustang dyno or u name it...

Our dyno is used for tuning, not inflated numbers. We've had three customers go directly from our dyno dynamics to two different dynojets and all three had over 15% more power on the dynojets.

With winter coming, throw some studded nokians on there along with the new headgasket.

I have seen up to 20% lower on dyno dynamics.

It's the truth. The differentiation between dynos is not the tuners fault.

The differentiation between numbers on one set up compared to the same set up both tuned on the same measuring device could be considered this though.

What A/R is that turbo ?
I have an Ebay Mainifold, with GT3071 on a T25 flange, with A/R 0.86 and internal WG - at 20 PSI, on a DynaPack, it made 457hp.
Also it come in much sooner than yours, at about 4400rpm.

I was actualy thinking of going to the Synapse Setup next.

people around my way are used to the fucked up looking cars running 10's and 11's. you know the money was not spent on the body when the car was off the road for a few months.

i love zip ties. they currently hold on my.....front bumper, driver fender to bumper, driver fender to body by the door, intercooler, oil catch can, hose clamps and i have twisties holding on my boost gauge (i ran out of zip ties)
