i've been searching for a few days and cant seem to get a conclusive answer.

1. what more needs to be done to this block to put on a metal hg?
stock hg came off in 1 piece and just left a little residue, i cleaned it with a ultra fine synthetic steel wool (scotch-bright) and a little oil.

i have gotten all the residue off and it is "shining" up, also deck surface is cleaner than it looks in pics now, i can get updated pics if needed.

2. i had the head machined, machinest said he barly took any material off maybe .001~.002" off

am i good to go to put on the hg?

3. I have noticed the talk about gasket maker on the front cover area, do i need to put some on the block, then put the hg down and then more on the hg?

some background on the motor, it overheated once due to a stuck thermostat, fixed problem never had overheating issues again. sourced a new head b/c of an oiling issue that lead to bearing failure on cam cap #3 intake side.

block has all new OEM bearings, bores were honed and new rings installed.

parts going on are 1.1mm apex-i hg, new oil pump BC cams, springs, retainers, ARP studs.

THANKS GUYS!!!

If you're using a "JDM" metal head gasket (Tomei, Greddy, HKS, Power Enterprise, Apexi are the good ones that come to mind), most people have great success with just a head resurface and doing what you did to the block (scotch-brite till it's shining). I'd say you're good to go.

But to be "totally correct", you should let a machinist "mirror finish" that block too.

The FSM says to put rtv on the top where it mates to the headgasket.

well if its for an SR your ONLY put a small bit of RTV on top where the Oil pump(front Cover) mates to the block

So Oil Pump-Block>RTV>HG>Head

You might wanna put the valves back in, might cause a problem with Compression :P
