I have a 93 se fastback w/ hicas... i wanna put sport springs on it to make it more fun to drive on the back roads... i might eventually put on performance shocks as well... i know alot of people say you cant put aftermarket shocks on a hicas car, but PDM Racing did, there feature car is a souped up hicas 240... My question is what should I get? My main goal is to make the car more nible and more fun to drive. thanks for any help

I've got an s14, so i don't know much about Hicas. However, i don't think you would run into problems with aftermarket springs/shocks.

You may want to check out this thread for ideas on what to buy:

I have a HICAS equipped '91 that is dropped about 1.8in in front and 1.5 in the rear. The HICAS engaging in stock form goes w/o notice but with it lowered you will notice it engaging but w/ no abrubt steering imputs it will be very smooth and controllable but with abrubt quick steering wach for snap oversteer ::the ass will kick out real fast::

I have AGX and HKS kg/mm springs. Great setup and no regrets...but then again I haven't taken it to the track yet to see what she will do on a road course. Be very smooth and she will reward you.

Edit: Don't lower it too much because the HICAS is attached directly to the subframe and not adjustable. So you will not be able to adjust brake toe-in and the like.

Option 1- track down a non-HICAS rear and swap
Option 2- get a HICAS eliminator to get rid of quirkiness on steering input but it won't do any thing for bad toe
Option 3- SUCK IT UP like me :D

Are you going w/ shocks also? I would strongly recomend a shock that has the dampning to hang w/ a upgraded spring. The rear sway will be stiffer on full soft then the stock so you will be exagerating the oversteer that the HICAS has already. I considered it but felt it would be too unstable at speed going around corners (w/ mid corner steering adjustments).

Try to make as forgiving a car as possible and not one that you are always driving on the edge
