so i forked over the dough and got a Jim Wold Technology ecu for my 1997 S13 SR's J4 Ecu, any who, i had them tune it for 91 octane, 550cc injectors and a z32 maf. the problem is when i start up the car, it some times does not turn on, the revs go up to like 500 and then it will die. but if i turn it on, and press the gas, it fires up no problem. also some times when i drive, and i go from mid rpm range, to a stop, it will die.

I have talked to JWT and they say it has nothing to do with the ecu, that it has to do with the way my car is set up, with injectors, and the maf. but everything is installed just as it is supposed to be.

I am annoyed because it was fine before, and i wanted to upgrade the maf and the injectors so i can run an s15 turbo.

I have not installed the s15 turbo yet, could this have anything to do with this problem?
what could be the problem? what couldn't be the problem.

1. Check the injectors O-rings first to see if they are cracked or sit correctly.
2. Check the wiring for MAF
3. Get another known good MAF to test
4. Get known good 550cc injectors to test.
5. Revert the setup back to stock setting, get a stock ECU to test.

If all of above come back positive, then it is the tune.
If it is the tune, then ask JWT to fix it.

Or you can re-pin to ECU wire plug to use a tuned E4, E5, 62, or 63 ECU. You can get those tuned ECUs much cheaper as there are plenty. I have a shared E4 ECU somewhere. If you need, I can chip it for your set up. Actually, I can put up to 4 maps into one chipped ECU so that you can choose the setup that is most suitable to your car. (ie, a Stock map, and a Z32,550cc Map). For references of my tune, check www.beyond.ca and search for "xcye".

i told them it was a j4 ecu, as far as the ground wire goes for the z32 maf, my pigtail came with the gound and the other wire soldered together, i have read some write ups saying to wire the ground to some part of the body near the headlight.

Were these injectors used?
Check your injector o-rings.
Also, check for boost leaks?

I had a jwt tuned ecu on my car at first. I really didnt like the idea of a bench tune in the first place but oh well, that is in the past. Well it had lots of the little dumb crap like your mentioning. It also had its timing too advanced at certain sections of the map. I actually ended up blowing the engine. I will never buy a pretuned/bench tuned/ commercial tuned ecu ever again. Just fine yourself a tuner and have them tune your car for your mods. Just because the tune worked on one of their cars dont mean it will work on yours.

They fed me all the same bull too. Its not our tune, its your car. Bla bla. Find someone that can tune your car or buy the stuff you need to tune it yourself. If you look im sure you can fine the stuff you need to tune it yourself cheaper than the jwt ecu cost in the first place.

That is correct, one is grounded to harness, one is grounded to chassis somewhere. I had a similar issue but my car wouldn't run when I had both together.
