View Full Version : Yet another FUCKING problem.

For starters, fuck my s14.

I recently replaced my IACV cause the ECU and general troubleshooting told me to. The ECU still gave me the light, so I borrowed my dad's extra truck while trying to get info on what else to troubleshoot.

I say fuck it and take the car out for a drive, and on the way home I suddenly ran into a problem... my gauge cluster (along with the CEL) stopped working. On top of that, my radio's voltmeter went from 13.2 (night time with Altima fans and headlights/foglights on) to 11.7.

Fuck me.

I don't think its the alternator, cause my cluster would still work. I can still start and run the car, so I wouldn't think its the ignition switch.

Did my ECU shit on me?

What else should I look for?

man just sell it and buy that FC!

Can't sell it if I can't make it work worth a damn. She runs beautifully. Solid ass idle, pulls like I've never had it pull before... But it just doesn't want to go.

But back to the topic at hand please.

sounds like your alternator, get a voltmeter and start checking and double check all of your grounds.

The thing that puzzles me is that when I put it into the run position, my dummy lights don't come on, and none of my gauges work... but it beeps and my radio comes on... WTF.

I say you have a problem with your ignition switch.

So the goddamn 7.5A fuse for the gauges blew.

Why? I dunno. I'm gonna replace the fuse and report back.

Best fucking game EVER.

I used to be crazy about Halo 3, but once I got the hang of COD4, I can't stop shooting those mofo's.

Anywho, OP, check your grounds, replace the blown fuse.

I *kinda* had a similar problem in my old S13.

Turned out to be a few bad grounds.

I've heard that a spastic tach (works sometimes, freaks out other times) could be caused by a bad ground.

Replaced the fuse, and all is good once again. Voltage is fine, but a little low, at 13.4. I dunno. Fuck it. I'm getting rid of it, and the guy I'm giving it to is gonna make a drift car out of it so I don't think its gonna be an issue.

glad to hear that was a quick fix.

Drove it to work today, and she did fine. Leave work, and get down the road to discover my gauges don't work again. Pulled the blown fuse at a gas station, and went home.

As I pulled up to the house, I had a hunch. I threw it in reverse, and BAM no more gauges. I tried it again with the car off in the run position just to make sure. Sure enough, it blew again.

Opened the trunk, and one of my reverse light wires got chomped by the latch, so I pulled it out, put a new fuse in, and SHAZAM! Working reverse lights and no gauge failure.

God my 240 is an enigma to me at times.

The thing is, I don't have to reverse out of the driveway, cause I just park on the street in front of my house, which is why it didn't blow when I went to work. At the gas station, I didn't park in a spot, but in a place I could just pull out. Again, no reversing required.

LOL.

so the lesson is not to be so emo, and the solution will come to you soon enough.

No, you have no idea the history between me and my s14.

Kinda like in 'Gone in 60 Seconds', when Nicholas Cage gets Elanor, and everything starts fucking up.

Kinda like that.

I thought all s chassis cars are like that, atleast from my experience lol

I'm starting to think that...

Like who the hell would lose gauge and alternator function and think to themselves, "Hmm... I think I might have a reverse light wire messed up!"

No.

If the car wasn't as clean as it is, and it wasn't an s14, I would destroy it.

And by the way, I rode in a friend's 90 RX7 Turbo-II tonight, and fell in love.

Omfg they're fun.

Sorry I missed this thread, I would have told you that. For some reason, and it's not even labeled in the transmission section of the FSM, the reverse switch is powered by the cluster circuit. I found that out seven years ago when I swapped a borrowed transmission into my car with a crushed reverse switch. I kept blowing fuses and had no clue why.

Yep. Well this is going in the notes for future reference...

Oh wait...

I'm trading my 240! Hahaha...
