the other day i was driving to school when i was at a stop sign and my car dies i tried to start it again but this time i could the fuel pump primering and the just clicks from what i think is the starter. i had to get a jump start to get the car going again. i know my starter might be going out but why would the fuel pump make that hum noise when i turn the key to on?

It always does. The pump primes with the key on for five seconds, then cuts off until the engine starts. You've probably just never turned the key on and waited to start it so you've never heard it.

ALT could be going out thus making your batt go dead there for it wont crank
but also my car did the same thing it did not stall, but i would turn the key on and the head lights on, the lights were brite so i knew the batt was not dead
it turned out to be the starter was bad
