i friend text me today if i would consider goin for a sr swap with automatic. he spoke to a shop that would do it for 2500 as the engine cost 1600 from a 180sx. it may be considerable since the car i have is not running ,needs new engine and out of budget.
?
my question is, how strong is the sr20det automatic and how about parts availability? is it easy to obtain broken parts? i dont wanna ask the shop themselves coz they will make it appear soooo easy just for me to purchase the engine. just an honest opinion. i am basically using my car as my las vegas car and concerned of making it climb the hills of 15 fwy piece of cake.

The automatic used for the SR is the same as the KA and VG30DE, as used in all 89-98 240s and 90-96 300 NAs. It's good for maybe 250whp before you need to start being careful, replacement parts are obviously everywhere since everyone junks them.

I would just wait till they had a 5 speed but idk what your looking for maybe you dont like 5 speeds idk. Then again i wouldnt pay a shop to do the swap anyways its way to easy to do it yourself.

In an interest of saving money an SR auto is ideal. For one you know it hasn't beaten on or abused like a manual, and the engine probably has less miles. Secondly you can generally get an auto clip for half the price. For someone limited on funds, time, and not looking to start fixing things that break down the minute the engine fires up an auto is a great option.

i saw the engine today. its looks reaaaaaaaally nice! like one of stuffs that sr20store.com by marco. its just that its auto. they are quoting me for 1200 to convert from auto to manual if i consider stick on top of that 2600. but this auto thing is cheap and fits my current savings. i might go for it anyway i just need a car with a stronger engine to climb the hills. i dont race or drift. thanks for the advise.
