My friend put down 421 on a Cometic, and ran a 75 shot on top of that. Head gasket is still fine and it's been over a year.

I am running an Apexi. I don't think it's the cometic failing, I think it's the people putting them in failing.

Very good point Chris =] so make sure what ever you buy is put on correctly

I read a long time ago that the early cometics leaked on the exhaust side. Only bad thing I've heard about them. That was a long time ago thought and if Cometic didn't fix the problem then obviously they wouldn't sell them anymore

I do think thats wrong. Its the actual gasket. Its pure garbage, On a honda or nissan.

the problem with using cosmetic is you need to have the head and block surfaced to be smooth and flat as fuck

the felpro is composite and compresses so if you are just removing the head to fix the gasket the feppro or any composite headgasket is the way to go

I've been running a Cometic for a while. No problems. Mine is misted LIGHTLY with copper spray, the Cometic directions specifically say not to do that.

I used to have a KA-T but I only ran a half bar of boost, now it's N/A. But the head gasket has been fine for a long time. I have ARP head studs too.

Unfortunately, I don't think Fel-Pro makes their badass performance head gaskets for a KA24DE. Compared to stock, a regular fel-pro is the better choice... and supposedly there's a fairly high success rate with new stockers at 400whp.

Using Cometic gaskets seems to be hit and miss... And as much as I love to criticize things I don't know about, I suspect the "misses" could have been prevented by the parts of stories that you Don't hear about, such as reusing stock head studs, or improperly re-torquing the head, or not having the head and block decked, etc.

I'm not sure how thick a cometic is but another thing to consider is that if you use a moderately thicker head gasket to drop compression, you also effect cam timing to some degree, necessitating adjustable sprockets to correct it.
