I've come to a crossroads. I love my 1990 240sx. It handles pretty well and I can jump on a few honda's when need be, but i thinking about something a little bit more refined. I found an 88 MKIII turbo for a couple of grand. It's about in the same condition as my car but it needs a lil work. You think i should sell the 240sx for the supra, or try to make the 240sx faster? Thanks

Keep the 240, the MKIII handles not so good, If you want a nice handeling supra get a MKII, they handle great my bud has one, and its very tight, and the gearing is amazing, MKIII are eh, try autoxing out of those, ahha

The MKIII is a grand touring car and a nice one at that. I would much rather log a couple hundred miles in one of those then a 240. With that said, it is obvious that they aren't going to work as well for auto-x, but if you don't do that, who cares.
The engine in the MKIII is very good and can handle a fair amount of boost. The chassis isn't bad either, double wishbone suspension on all four corners. The supra is definatly more expensive then the 240, given similar condition, miles, etc. If you can afford the supra and you are more concerned with street driving and beating hondas from stoplights, then go with it. If you are thinking that you might want a more nimble car that gets better gas milage and is a little newer then stay with the 240.

the supra weighs nearly 1000 pounds more.

well said last post. 240's are some of the nicest cars ever made...in any aspect. I was once in the same position you were, but the mkIII wore off because i drove my friends and i realized how much more enjoyable the 240 is to drive. Do yourself a favor, keep the 240, it will always be there for you.

when I read this I think:
"this is an ignorant forum, forget anything but a nissan 240sx because they are the coolest cars in the world"

I think he was asking for a reasonable opinion and comments like that have nothing to do with anything.

The supra's are about 1000lbs heavier, but they have 75hp more stock and bigger brakes and larger tires, so it's not like they aren't balanced.
Anyway, some people prefer 240s and others prefer supras, depends on personal style and driving needs. I got a 240 on purpose so it's not like I'm pissed at the 240 and wish I had a supra or anything.

The handling on a 240 may be a bit better but power potential is better on the supra, engine swap or no engine swap. The supra will probably be more comfortable. Don't forget about maintainence, a turbo car will be more demanding in that respect.

If you are going to get the supra, be warned that they have a deffective stock head gasket. So make sure it is replaced by the previous owner, or replace it yourself... especially if your going to be running high boost.

Check out these reviews to see all the people with head gasket problems.
