Ok, this is a simple yes or no answer question.

I got an 89 shell, with no engine harness or anything. So, I put my 92 engine harness in and hooked the two SMJ's up. Nothing in the interior works, and fuses are blowing. I am assuming it is because of the mis-matched harnesses?

So, Do I need to get a new interior harness, or is there anyway to convert the harness to make them compatible?

Thanks...

That's like trying to plug two straight mens' penises together. Shit's just not gonna be happy.

Get a DOHC body harness from a shell that matches yours (if automatic coupe with sunroof and power windows, get automatic coupe with sunroof and power windows.

If you got the time to do it here is what I would do.

Get FSM for both years and study the shit out of them and the differences between the wires going to and from the SMJ.

Take copius notes

Then after that go and switch said wires around by depinning and repinning the SMJ. Should prove to be quite a pain in the ass for a little while but to me would be worth it. Then Again, I am pretty sure someone here has done it already and would be able to help you out.

Also amke sure you test everything with a low amp bettery charger on the system instead of the battery that way you can test all of your circuits with minimal risk of blowing shit up.

the engine harness to chassis harness connector has nothing to do with stuff like interior lights and stuff. the only thing that comes off of the engine harness for the interior is for your cluster. and you need to match the colors on the different plugs for it to work. if you notice the plug by your glovebox where they connect they all have the same wire colors on either side but they dont mate. just repin them to work out.

as for you interior problems that could be anything

haha. Thanks for the responses. I'll look for a new harness. Re-pinning would be a royal pain in the ass. I'll go the easy route.

If I recall correctly depining and repining the M53 connection is all that is really required. The mentioned connection is different in the 89-90 harness compared to the 91-94 harness. The fusebox and SMJ are pretty much the same.

I would hope you are matching body styles with the corresponding harnesses. If not the wiring harnesses are slightly different between body styles. The difference is at the tail lights. (4 connections for the hatcback and 2 connections for the coupe)

FACK. That might be it. The interior harness is from a hatch and I have a coupe. Hmm....
