View Full Version : Can't clock turbo

I have a PTE turbo, and I can't get the exhaust housing to clock. I can get the compressor to clock for my ic piping. But the oil drain is on the top of this turbo instead of the bottom. I loosened all the bolts on the exhaust housing and even sprayed it with penetrating oil. But it still won't move an inch. Am I missing something?

Or anyone got any tips or anything?

Yea it definately won't budge at all. Looks like I'm going to have to send it in.

Try tapping it with a rubber mallet to get it to loosen up. If you can't get it loose, take it to a machine shop; they can work wonders.

Although, when I took mine in, all they did was hit it harder and that did the trick...

Believe me I hit it, wood block+hammer.

tap it, but with something harder than a rubber malet.

I used a giant (18") adustable wrench on the center section of a 2871 that was froze up to get it free.

With enough force, it will come off. If you don't want to hit it that hard yourself, take it to a shop and let them smack it around ;)

I don't want to take it off, i just want to be able to turn it. The only thing I have not tried yet is heating it up and then beating the shit out of it.

This isn't Happy Gilmore where I can just tap it in.

On monday I'll try heating it up and beating on it, and I'll hit it hard. If it doesn't come then I am going to just send it in. Bad thing about that is it will take a month to get it back I'm sure.

Did I say anything about tapping it?

Hit it.

A month? What the fuck? It doesn't take a turbo specialist 1000 miles away to get your exhaust housing loose. Smack the shit out of it. Don't even bother heating it up. If you smack the shit out of it and it doesn't come loose, take it to a local shop and let them smack the shit out of it.

Unless you live in outer Mongolia, there should be a machine shop, or something similar, within a few miles of you. It's a hunk of metal stuck to another hunk of metal; it's nothing they can't handle. Seriously.

leave to bolts across for each other on but lose and smack that s*it the bolts will keep the housing for comming off on a angle and messing up your blade.

It should come off after beating it all around. Only that should be holding it in place will be carbon deposit. Just wedge it on somethig off the ground and start tapping the housing all around till it falls off.

what the fuck is all this talk about beating the shit out of it?

grab the center section with an 20 " adjustable wrench, have the hotside held in vice and turn, not beat.

read you fucktards, he's not trying to take it off, just clock it!!!!

Thank you. As of right now though the turbo is the least of my concerns, lol.

Beating it with a hammer will help get it loose. Fucktard.

Heat the CHRA to turbine housing interface with a propane torch then spray penetrating spray and I bet it'll come loose with a few heavy hits.

Well I finally got it. A Bench vice, pipe wrench, torch, penetrating oil and a huge hammer later I finally got it to go. It wouldn't go counter clockwise so I would only have to turn it 1/4-1/3rd of the way so I had to go the other way and bring it all the way around. then the blades wouldn't move and I was worried I messed it up. But as soon as I tightened the bolts it moves fine.

Soution= don't be scared and just hit the damn thing

I have the same problem. I got the inlet/outlet side loose but I can't get the center portion to break free.

I've been hammering away for an hour now and am starting to loose hope.

Where's a good place to wack the damned thing?
