whats the most damage you guys have taken to your car directly because your car was lowered too much?
is it possible to mess up the chassis/frame just going in and out of driveways and over speed bumps?

Prolly crushing the exhaust-resinator over a speed bump:)

10-09-2008, 08:38 PM
it all depends on how low you are but yes from going in and out of driveways sometimes the frame will rub the cement and not only the cement is being scraped away but also the frame and will eventually end up with a hole in your frame

Can I take the win?
Intercooler got sucked under the car with piping still attached.AHAH
Exhuast holes, broken hangers.
Broken manifold 3 times.
Dented my fuel tank
Ripped off my swaybar, broken endlinks and bent all 4 studs.
Dented front cross member, so my steering column hit my turbo.
My wheel sucked in my fender 3 or 4 times while reversing.
Wiring harness caught fire from rubbing.
Bent frame rails from speed bumps.
Broken Front bumper several times.
High centered going into parking lot damaged broke off both side skirts.
Tires get cut from random bolts nuts screws and metal body parts.
Theres more... but im lazy.
If you're driving the car right it should be fine at any height. I have less than a finger between aero and ground, and it's fine over bumps and driftnig and such.

I'd say the damage you can also accrue from being too low, is that your bank account might be damaged when mad chics try to go out with you and you wanting to play Hef, sending G's on these chics.
Nothing too major, lost a lip doin 80 on the highway. Don't know how. Entire exhaust system is dented, good thing its still factory. Frame rails, etc. Funniest tho was getting stuck on my friends driveway, and having a 3' drop from the bottom of my car to the ground. Wish I took pics lol.

i just remembered once i bent a tie rod nasty and had a tow truck come get my car, they had to call 9 different tow trucks until a flat bed one was called and they had to get long pieces of wood planks to get my car on the flat bed. lol the po po had to close the street down for 10 mins so i could get my car out on the street so they could have a flat surface to pull my ride up. hahaha it was embarrassing but yet funny. the looks some people gave me. ill try to get the videos from my friends phone.

I think the damage that could occur from a car being too low is pretty stupid to talk about for three pages. Whatever is the lowest point on the car gets damaged. From there, anything slightly higher gets it. Do we really need to discuss that? Sorry if you guys think this is worthy of discussion, why not create a thread about the possible damages sustained by driving underneath a truck? A toll gate? A really low bridge? Or how about down a narrow alley with dumpsters on either side?

From being too low...Ive pretty much destroyed my Friends bumper in socali after running over a shredded truck tire, bumper was 3-4 inches off the ground. You know that butt puckering feeling when you know theres nothing you can do because you're wedged in traffic on I-10??? Speed taped the bumper to get it back to norcal so I can rebuild it. The day later on the way up to norcal, going thru the gravevine, hit a really bad dip on I-5. Hard enough to slam on the DP and sheer all 5 bolts on the turbo elbow. Was the best 6.5 hour drive back to Fairfield. Had to safety wire the elbow up to keep me from dragging the DP and exhaust. On top of that, had to drive on 3rd gear the whole way and finding a 5k rpm sweet spot that wasnt making me completely deaf.
PS: Turbo spool sounded sweet tho...

Man, I feel like I drive a 4x4 compared to you guys. I blame my suspension design.
Worst thing to happen so far is scraping off an exhaust hanger, and spitting out an inner fender liner, along with a piece of bumper.
The height of my 205/40ZR17 tires raised the car a bit compared to here on 175/65R14

i've done that before, except my cat cover thing got caught, and i couldnt back up off of it. dudes at the car wash thought they could just pick it up and get it off of there. i laughed when they didnt even lift the slack up. sucks that there's no suspension travel..lol
sucks having open diff and having a free spinning wheel in just about any driveway you go in
that's the worst. either that or when you're leaving a gas station or something, and you need to get out and go in traffic, and you start to pull forward, then that one wheel just starts spinning, then you don't go, then it catches a bit and starts squealing, then you have to take off quick cause you dont wanna get rear-ended. always afraid a cops gonna pull me over.

that was me. needed a 2500 series sierra to pull my rails/rear subframe off the pavement. it was only a 1.5 inch drop tops from the paved driveway to the dirt surface.
damage... sway bar in front is all sorts of effed up... no paint on the bottom side, but no rust either cus i scrape it so often that it keeps the metal fresh.
i rub harness on both sides, on 205.50.16's... tucked front, rears level with fender line. front lip... is... "not in new condition" anymore... its so bad that when i scrape my front lip leaving everyday from my house, that my front fenders are pushed outward from the upward force of the bumper/lip... my fenders are bulged... i bend them back into shape maybe once a week. had to sell old exhaust cus i wore a hole thru the canister and two flanges, and broke two hangers clean off.
and to top it off... i cannot drive on crowned roads. i live in fucking amish country. ha. hahaahha. ha... sucks... but i love it, and will NEVER raise it

haha my friend just blew his motor due to a dent in the oil pan. . im guessing due to a driveway:keke: . or a fall from a jack
dented oilpan on the ka, my sr downpipe is like a half circle after driving over speed bumps. exhaust canister is fucked beyond belief i still cant belive there are no hole or crack in my exhaust after 3 years.lol i need to get rid of the shitty n1.

what's with all the guys who slam their cars, and then talk about how they've chewed through their harnesses??
seriously..did you not see that one coming? that's like the ONE main thing that you can easily do something about. exhaust can't really move, but harness relocation is easy. do it.

flattened out the bottom of my header on my civic si. Backed straight out of a steep driveway and bent the end of my muff a bit on the 240, nothin to serious. Oh yeah and like some dudes above me, I got stuck on a speedbump. There were two and when i finally made it over the first one i just sat there in between the two for like an hour before i decided to try and launch over the second lol didnt work well so basically avoid speedbumps and steep driveways.

I punctured a hole on my DC Headers in my EF after going over a few driveways, and than finally hitting a bump in the road. Also ripped the front bumper off of my Z once coming back home from D&B and not seeing a gigantic and steep dip at an intersection. I was pissed.

I don't understand this thread at all. I guess it's the whole desire to spend thousands on parts only to destroy them that I don't get. It must be an awful feeling to fear that you may have to go over a speed bump.
It must be embarrassing to get beached on a speed bump or driveway with your girl in the car. Do you ask her to help push? Weird.

I'm surprised that people don't use larger wheels to maintain wheel fitment but also maintain oil pans/transmissions etc. and so forth. and so on.

my DP is old school greddy mx tho, and it needs a good inch cut out of it.
Quoted for truth.
Mine is all sorts of scraped and flattened'ish on the bottom.
Needs more flattening.
Or an inch cut out and re-angled so it doesn't point my exhaust downwards.

Head of oil drain plug has been ground down a bit. Downpipe is now an oval. I have had to hammer the oil pan flat 3-4 for times. Just finished fiberglassing my front bumper back together after it broke in 3 places. Will I raise it? nope

You know they sell oval'd out pipes now right?
I forget where I saw them at, but it's like the same exact type of piping as the ones on the Circuit Sport or Moonface downpipes.

What does high centered mean?
1slowS13
10-25-2008, 01:47 PM
By using my brain and reading for context clues, i have come into the conclusion that he meant his car belly flopped, by saying "high centered."
Z_Spool
10-25-2008, 02:28 PM
High-centering your car is when you get the center of the car stuck on an area that keeps the tires from getting traction. High-centering basically turns your car and a speed-bump into an expensive and frustrating teeter-totter.
Sileighty_DRFT89
10-27-2008, 10:44 PM
exactly what it means lol. i've got some nice marks and dents on my frame rails now. I lowered it another inch.

i have put a few dents in my oil pan aswell as broke my factory pwer brace and the common scraped exahust. My favorite part about a lowered car with the coils at fully stiff is going down a highway that you dont know doing about 80 and hitting a bridge and bottoming out and looking in the mirrior at the sparks that just went all over the car behind you. I know slow down like 20mph when i see a bride that i have never been over. All this and my shit is still high.

whats the most damage you guys have taken to your car directly because your car was lowered too much?
is it possible to mess up the chassis/frame just going in and out of driveways and over speed bumps?
my motor went boom twice. sitting really low with shitty sr20det oil pans isnt fun. ive blown my motor twice from sitting too low and one of the times i managed to crack a greddy oil pan in half.

Countless new exhaust leaks, cracked resonator, cracked fuel lines (not sure how I managed that one), tension rod brackets are a joke, I've been rear ended while going over a speedbump diagonally at 1.3 MPH (no damage)
no matter; it's all part of owning a car that when you go by young kids, they yell, "is THAT a DRUG DEALER?!"

Paint being knocked off front bumper from getting too close to curbs, hitting the stock "power brace" (the strut rods?), scraping and denting my exhaust, and that's all I can think of right now.
