Wuddup all, i just bought an s14 and on the pink we left the price box empty, and i was wondering what would be cheaper for me at the DMV when i go to get the title? Listing it as a gift, listing t that i bought it for an higher price, or listing it as a cheaper price? thanks in advance for any help.

dont put it as a gift... but if you decide on a price to put, then make sure the previous owner puts the SAME AMOUNT when he sends his release papaers..
i just did 300. thats $40 when you pay tax/reg transfer fee.

NO WAIT! Dont do that! Find the limit in your state and put at least that. My state is 2999, and 8 years.
Anything higher than those two figures I have to pay tax on the salve value.
But! If you need to total the car out, alot of insurance companys CAN see what you paid for the car, and only give you that price.
Id rather spend a couple hundred and get the full value back.

in texas they changed it , so instead of paying a percentage or purchase price you now pay a percentage or kelly blue book value ,
wen i first did my car 3 years ago i put 100 bucks and paid 10 dollas
my friend registered his 90-94 240 and paid 140 , tax tittle registration
he paid that because he had to pay kelly value
i did mine and paid 160 for tax, tittle transfer , registration renewal and custom plates
i paid that amount because its only 10 dollas if you do it as a gift or even trade
i did even trade

you can even put that you bought it for $1 and the dmv cant say anything at all cuz there is no law that states that you have to sell your car at a set price from blue book list or anything like that in other words i could sell you a freshly new car for $1 and they have to take it.....so put down the $300 or even $200 by law they cant say anything or question you about it and if they do just tell them that the trany is broken and you bought it like that

wat joeboo1 said is true. you can put just about any price as long as both parties have the correct information. so if the seller transfers the title over to the buyer, and they both agree on $1 and it matches on all the paperwork, the dmv will have to accept that.

well i already wrote 1000 just to be safe, and so it doesnt look fishy, and if what bigsyke said is true i shoulda put alot more cuz s14's automatic or not arent cheap to find these days! but oh well at least better safe than sorry shouldnt be too much still at 1000 for dmv transfer fees. thanks for all the help guys!

I wrote cheaper on mine and the seller had it higher. I ended up getting screwed by DMV for extra money. Make sure its the same.

I always get the seller to put $1,000. Usually the seller gets the break because they have to pay taxes on their profit. Fuck the DMV. I dont give a shit

Its sounds like the green weenie is trying to get at you. There was a brief that's being emailed around currently and has all the veterans benefits per state.

Here in SoCal, if you put $750 (if i remember it correctly and it hasn't changed) or less, it's going to be the same fee. If you put more, then it'll be percentage of the price (don't know how much, but more than sales tax :D). :D

put 100$ and all you pay is like 60$ thats what i did. The lady just said so you bought the car for 100 and i said yea and she said okay your total is sixty sumthing bla blah

No they can't, if you paid $40,000 for a 91 POS, they wont pay you anywhere near it when you total it. Unless you can prove it was worth more than that.
And the opposite is true, if you pay $2.00 for a 09 GTR and total it They can't just give you $2! It's based of MSRP/KBB/TrueValue and some other shit but even if you scam the tax man there is no recoil when you total the car from the insurance company. Insurances is based on the value of the car, not what you paid. Otherwise if you were to buy a 93 rx7 r1 competition edition back in 93 (~$45k) and total it today they would pay you out ~$45k and not the current value of 15-20k. Which would be fucking awesome for us, but horrible for insurance companies.

iirc if you list it as a gift, then they charge tax based on the kbb value.
usually when i buy a car, i just put liek $1200-1500 as the purchase price. and then deal with paying under $100 in taxes.

you're skipping out on paying the people who cut you your check, hmm.
Anyways, I know here in Florida if you put a purcahse price TOO low on a purchase of a car they will send you a letter asking for taxes to be paid on the "value" of the car unless noted by repair bills and similar which satisfies the purchase price of the car.
Had ran into a situation with this when buying another Camero when I was younger which ended up putting $100 down as the purchase price, when at the time the value was at around $7000. They sent a letter asking for backed taxes for it however, i had bills showing that I needed to buy parts and have work done to it to bring it to value.
As others have said, lower purchase price = low taxes in most cases.

i had a discussion about this at work the other day. its fuckin retarded for the state to tax a car every time its sold. they got their money the first time. i bought my last s14 for 2500. i dont have an issue paying taxes on that. but, i only think its cool to use a gift waiver when its between family or really close friends. just my :2c:
