Hey everyone, I just finished my S14 SR swap into a 95 S14 chassis. Well, I guess I'll start with my mods and then i'll talk about my problem and my troubleshooting so far.
mines k's rom tune ecu.
generic Filter for s14 MAF
skyline GTR R33 Fuel Pump
Trust large capacity oil pan
Trust surge tank
Trust Front Mount Intercooler
Tomei 555cc injectors
Tomei Poncams
Megan Racing Exhaust Manifold, outlet pipe, downpipe, and exhaust
Megan Racing oil catch can
CXR Racing Aluminum Radiator 2 core
Brain farting, so i can't think of anything else.
Well, anyways, I finished my swap yesterday morning and set timing to 15 degrees BTDC with engine warm and is still having running issues. I've seen a lot of threads on this, but they don't seem to answer my questions. My car runs....running rich, smokes out the exhaust now seems to be grey with bluish tint, runs rough. I tried blipping the throttle, but engine was hesitant. So I tried reving the engine, does rev high...but stumbles till after about 2500rpms and then revs slowly....and yes, my turbo does spool and blows out the blow off valve. I decided to start with the basics. I checked battery voltage with engine off (12.1 volts). When i checked the battery with engine running (11.7 volts). I checked the alternator, and it's not producing. So i put one on order. I thought that maybe that would be my issue, seeing how the injectors run on a 12 volt scale.
Well, this morning i started my car with a battery charger and let it run so i could simulate that the car is running 13 volts and nope, still runs rough. So, I cleaned out my MAF, IAC, and connectors, and rechecked the ECU connectors and pins, ran better, still crappy..but better. When I put load on the engine (Driving) it ran like crap like before. So my thought was that I had a vacuum leak. The only thing i have hooked up to the intake manifold is the Brake booster, FPR, boost guage, and the hose coming from the intercooler and a hole bunch of caps to block off the unused ports. I checked all intercooler hoses and vacuum hoses with brake clean, and could not find it. So then, I hooked up a vacuum guage to one of the unused ports and found myself to have 0 vacuum with engine running. Well, seeing how i checked all hoses...i've been thinking that maybe my camshaft timing is off. So to verify, I hooked up a compression tester and checked the #1 cylinder and got 115psi.....I'm thinking that it's low and should be around the 150psi range, but enough to barely sustain combustion. I'm thinking that maybe that's why my engine runs like crap. Would anyone agree that my Camshaft timing is off? I'm asking, cause now i'm getting pissed and losing my head. I'm sure you guys would know how i feel and could get me on the right track. I'm about to check the rest of the cylinders, but i'm hoping that they are all the same...around 115psi and give me reason to take apart the head again and not the pistons. Please get me on the right track, cause this is my first problematic S14 SR swap.
