I'm buyin a 95 s14 for 3800. The guy is tellin me that the check engine light is on because there was a leak in the a/c hose and he just took it off. then he told me that if u just put an a/c hose in their the check engine light will go away.

I didn't know the a/c had to do anything with the check engine light going on and i'm pretty sure it dusn't...

also the tachometer dusn't work, and the needle just goes crazy when u drive it. he told me its just the needle that needs to be replaced not the speed sensors?

SORRY FOR THE NOOB QUESTIONS!!!!!

idk about the AC and checkengine light. But there is more to the Tach problem then just replacing the needle, my old 240 did the same thing, i replaced the tach and it went away. just my 2 cents

yeah the ac has nothing to do with the check engine and it might be the speed sensor

i think 4 lug SE's exist but are rare. u dont wanna get that if its 4 lug w/ a speedometer that has seizures and a check engine light that u dont really kno the problem of. look for another one or lowball the crap out of this guy. gl

I've never seen a 4lug SE Model. I could be wrong, like i usually am!
Just check the gauge cluster! Does it have a white background? The SE models usually come with that as well!

Also look at the headlight switch. It should have this extra little "turny" thing that turns on the fog lights.

Sounds pretty shady to me dude. Not to burst your bubble or anything.
Pretty much sounds like this guy is lying out of his ass just so he can get the car SOLD!

Be careful. You should do a little research so you can go back at him, and tell him this is wrong with it etc. so you bump the price down.

Also, how long has the listing of the car been up for? That will tell you something. If it's been up for a while, i think you know why!

GoodLuck! :]

ya thats a very good point also SidewaysZ , how long has it been on the market? how long has the dude had it? why is he selling it?

simple questions like that tell aa buyer alot about the car, without looking at the car.

I'd bet it's the speed sensor/tach problem that's throwing the cel.
Not worth the asking price.

Dont do it mann! Who knows what else is wrong with the car. It could be any sort of electrical problem coming from the sensors throwing the needle back and forth. It happened to my altima and the temp gauge was just flying all over the place as if it was having seizures. It was a bad thermo sensor and it was getting too much electricity.

I wouldnt buy that car. If he gives it to u for half price, then maybe.

Doesnt sound worth it. However, It may be something minor. Take it to an Autozone and have them check the code for you (check engine light) Its free and most of the time they can give you a pretty good idea of what the problem is.

because someone made a typo.

some fat cunt making 9.50 an hour sitting at the dmv just clicked SE because she heard you say "two forty S X" and she doesn't give a fuck. she hit send and your new title printed out. simple as that.

if you'd like to know, decode the vin. the truth is out there.

For starters, speaking from owning an S14 SE..... all S14 SEs had white face gauges and 5 lugs. Also many had VLSD and ABS and most of the ones I have seen had leather. Now as far as the check engine light all you need to do to find out what it is, is to get to the ECU and spin the dial on there and count the blinks of the check engine light or the red led on the ecu either or, its the same thing. Then you can reference the code:
How to Read Malfunction Codes for Your DOHC 240SX (http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/ecm_codes_doch.htm)

The tachometer issue can be one of several issues. The tachometer signal comes from the distributor so there is a possibility that the distributor is bad on the car. However I had the same issue on my car when I bought it 4 years ago when it had 98K. The cap and rotor were worn out and caused my needle to bounce around or not even move at times. So that was that. I replaced them and haven't had issues since. However if that doesn't fix it, it could be a bad distributor (you would know, car would run like ass) or in worst case the cluster/tachometer itself is busted. And that OEM from the dealer isn't cheap, your better off finding a used working cluster or hooking up an aftermarket tach on it....

Either way if the guy who is selling the car is an idiot then be aware since the car may have more wrong with it then meets the eye. Always be cautious and never jump on something just because you want it really badly. Take your time, plenty of cars to choose from.

Not on a OBD1 car..... :aw:only late model 95s were OBDII, mines is 95 built in 94 and has OBD1

Also the speed sensor on the top of the transmission bell housing gives signal to the speedometer on the cluster it has nothing to do with the tachometer

Please do not post if you have no clue what you're talking about. All 1995 models are OBD-I. Period.

The sensor on top of the bellhousing is the crank position sensor, a mandated part for S14s only that's part of the onboard diagnostics. It has nothing to with speed, timing, fuel, or engine operation. The speed sensor is located in the tail section of the transmission, where's found on all models.

VLSD and ABS as well as leather were an option. We've been over this countless times. Both were available in either SE or base trim, but both were also rare. If you've seen a lot of S14s with leather the majority of them were aftermarket leather.

stay away from that car.. people like that are not trust worthy. there can be many things wrong with that car.. don't buy someones headache.. trust me I know! althogu most of us end up replacing most parts any way you at least want something in good shape just for it being a regular car.
