Hey All,

1991 Hatch
2 Things:

1. Whenever I reverse (or if I'm in neutral going backwards) I hear a slight grinding noise coming from the rear. It's not a consistent grind, but I only hear it at a certain point. The best way to think about the frequency of the grind is to imagine a tire with a nail sticking out of it. The faster I move backwards, the more frequent the grind; the slower I move backwards, the less frequent the grind. This sound only comes while reversing (from what I've noticed, I'll double check though). Any ideas on potential problems? Anything of great concern?

2. My fan is LOUD. Right when I give the car some gas, the fan ROAAAARS much louder than it should. I've asked some people about it and they say that I may need to replace the Radiator Fan Clutch. I was hoping to get your opinions on this oddity.

Thanks for your time!
Joe

Dont worry about it, its somthing with the brake system (Caliper and Rotor)

#2
The Fan Clutch should spin with a little resistance if its locked up then you need to replace the clutch.

Thanks, the "gremlin" is good to know.

I just spun the radiator fan and it does spin with some resistance. Any other ideas on what could be causing the loud roar?

just a thought tho trucks are usually loud and this is a truck motor design.

Now that you mention it, there's a part of the shroud that is broken off, I'll take pictures and post.

Looking at the pictures, it doesn't seem that this size hole would warrant the noise, but I'm still not sure.

P.S. How do you embed the picture? I used the insert picture function and pasted the link but nothing came up.
