Ken Miyoshi / Mainstream bringing you another top-notch drift event coming up on March 2nd 2003. You thought the Option event was mindblowing, we are now setting up a DRIFT CLINIC featuring the three top ranked D1 Drivers in a drift class and doing a drift demo.
1. FUMIAKI KOMATSU - Signal Auto. You've seen the car on the front cover of Super Street as well as many magazine pages. Now get the chance to get up close and learn what it takes to be on top!
2. TOP SECRET FALKEN D1 driver from Japan.... all I can give is the hint - Green RPS13
3. TOP SECRET FALKEN D1 driver from Japan... only one hint necessary - Rotary powered
Unlike the last event, this event is OPEN TO THE PUBLIC which means a gang of people are coming out of the woodworks for this one. This event will be held at IRWINDALE SPEEDWAY along with a JDM vs DTM car show being brought to you by none other than the infamous IMPORT SHOWOFF. More info is coming up next week. Keep your eyes out on the forums for updates!

JDM vs DTM? does that mean there will be cars like BMWs and Audis, etc.. actually running at the drift clinic? I'd actually like to see some M3s S4s M5s, etc.. (basically some european cars and maybe domestics) getting into the same stuff

no LSD=power slide
most IMPORTANTthing for drifting: LSD
w/o it you arent drifting.
dont live in denial
if you want to partake in drifting and suceed. you NEED an LSD. BEFORE suspension, power, exhaust. LSD and drifting are married to eachother. ask any drifter. professional or not. ALL have an LSD.
haha, I've been signed up for a week now... in novice. :) I'll be there man, I'll be there! I'll also be there at the gate with you guys on the 22nd.

IMO, it's your personal preference. If you don't already have one, anything will be better than nothing. Just be prepared to spend some big bucks. W/ that said, you have choices among Nismo, Cusco, Kaaz, and VLSD's stateside. Couple ppl have access to Tomei from what I've heard. And then of course there are more JDM LSD's such as ATS if you have access to ppl willing to ship from Japan. I've also heard ppl talk about Quaife, not sure whether these are stateside or oversea. In any case, money, money, and money. Money for installation, parts(output shaft), gasket, fluid, etc. Take caution breaking in the LSD, and more money set aside for maintenence. Real LSD's require changing of fluid to prolong life of LSD as much as changing oil on your car if not more.

There are a few of us from NICO that are meeting up at The Puente Hills Mall is right off the 60, exit Azusa Ave...
the showoff starts at 10 so we were thinking of getting there ahead of time to get good seats and meet up with more peoples adn checkout cars and stuff...
so we were planing on meeting up at the mall around 8:00-8:30 just so we can wait for whoever shopws up and then caravan to the place.
if you guys are planing on going and going to be taking the 60 and/or close by the puente hills mall.. please join us... there were 5 cars that caravaned to the socal20sx meet and it was fun. got to meet a lot of new peoples... so come join us... after all we all are 240 owners!!!

I live rite next to the mall, if I manage to get up that early, I'm down to meet up w/ y'all. However, if you've been to Irwindale Speedway, you wouldn't want to meet up that early IMO... 2 reasons, first, tis not that far from Puente Hill mall... Second, if you were at the Option event, there's really no "good spot" that you would need to get there early to get... Think of an autoX, then you'll know what I mean...

Yeah that's pretty much true. NOt like any early bird VIP box, but the people that do get there early, usually dont give up their spot on the rails. heh. But I think this showoff consits of Euro spec as well, so many more attendees, as well as your Fanatic "Import Showoff" fans that never miss any of these events. So who knows. All I know is that since I live in Monterey Park (close to Irwindale), thats less driving time = more sleep time. EIther way its 5:34 AM right now and I could really care less about what im writing. Good night/morning.

Happy birthday to me!!! :D As a birthday present, my parents bought 3 tickets for the show! Just me and them. I cant believe they bought tickets. I'm still in shock! I cant wait!
p.s. And, yes, i enjoy hanging out with my parents :)
I take it that means you won't be driving, eh? :D It'd have been even cooler if your parents bought you coilovers or wheels! Heck, it'd be cool if your parents bought you tires!

I wish i could drive. I need to get off my lazy ass and get the rest of my parts together for the 5-speed swap :p That and i need an LSD too!
Coilovers....now that would've been too cool. I probably would've screamed with excitement like a little girl if they'd a done that :p

well i just went to the Driftshowoff site and I am not sure if I can still sign up for the event. I will probably sign up for the novice, but it seems like the advanced package offers sooooo much more. O well.
Advanced Drifting Registration $150
Includes Drift Clinic, Advanced Track, Drift Competition Fee, FREE Lunch, (Limit 40 max)
Intermediate/Novice Drifting Registration $40
Includes Intermediate/Novice Track and Slalom course only.
Which one should I do. This will be my first event so I am thinking with going to Novice. But damn the adnvanced sounds like good stuff!! Well does anyone know if its too late to register??

sounds like still open
i would say:
go beginner/intermidiate if you want MORE track time
go advanced if ou want the clinic and less track time. you'll lose time due to the class as well as the competion.
but then again, how often do you get a lesson from Koguchi-san?
its yoru call
more time then go beginner. if you are using open diff, definately beginner. the advanced will most likely have at least 2-3 turns and w/ open diff it will be hell trying to slide left right leeeeeft and not snap oversteer.
kanekz
02-26-2003, 07:33 PM
Ahhhh, man I dont know what to do. Exactly what you said, "how often do you get a lesson from Koguchi-san?" That is so true. Well I am gonna look at the tomei 2way that Keinsm has for sale. If I do get it, I will try to install by the event. So ya im pretty much up in the air on this one. I definetaly do want more track time, but then again the clinic is very inticing. What would you do..just an opinion? *ripping hair out*
For the advanced, do you get to go on the begginer/novice track as well?

I am so bummed! :( The guy that was selling the Tomei 2way sold it the day before I was going to look at it. Now I wont have lsd by track day. I really dont know what to do anymore. I need to decide fast. What do you guys think? Go for the advanced and get a drift clinic from the PROS, or just stick with the beginner/novice since I am going to run with an open diff?? AHhhhh I am bummed.

Yes the have on site inspection begin at 7:00a.m..
It doesn't matter u have LSD or not as a beginner, just go to the beginner course, learn your car first, get the feeling of sliding around and improve your steering input/throttle control first. I have seen ppl drifting with an open diff. and do better than those ppl who have LSD (me :( ) . Also, they do have instructors from club4ag to teach you, so don't worry about it.
Btw, i will be start going at sat. mid night from SF, non-sleep, 6 hours, arrive early for tech inspection, drifting for the whole day and drive back to SF for another 6 hours...... Damn, I wish i won't fall into sleep while I am drifting. Anyway, i will see you guys there. Good luck.

I'm not saying you can't handle it, but you should really rest before going out on the track. Leave earlier or something cuz being fatigued when you're driving really impairs your senses. More accidents are caused by sleepy drivers than drunk driving. And not only are you risking yourself and your car, you put people on the track at risk too.
pchio
03-01-2003, 04:40 PM
Yes, u guys are right. I will try to rest as much as possible on Saturday. I wish I could come to LA one day before te event, and stay over there. But I really can't for a reason. So... Anyway, I will be very careful and avoid any accident.
Thanks,
Pat

i had a blast! most of you that know me saw my post at club4ag so im not typing that huge thing again. i learned a whole lot. mostly i learned its easier to drift a 240 than an 86! but i need a few little things like a seat, dori knob, and steering hub extension to make it more comfortable and controlable. i hate driving witht he steering wheel on top of my knees. anyone else around 6 foot have this prob with s13? so annoying.
well anyway i got some good drifts in and had fun talking with people. great event and i cant wait for more!

shinchu thanks for buying my rims LOL.
I got to say that getting a LSD made my car 1000% more fun to drive.
The drift show off was cool for those of us who got the wrist bands.
If you dont have a wrist band you = gay
i got to meet alot of new peoples and next time i wont show up 5 mintues befor the event with no sleep then drive back to nocal half dead.
