Compared to other cars, is the 240sx hard to do work on yourself?

compared w/ other cars..that's a bad way to ask. depends on your skill level and guts on how much you want to work on it.

its 'easy' in the sense that its pretty straightforward for most of the stuff and a good support by fellow 240sx.

but then again, so is a civic.

so go figure.

True, well what I want to know is like, do I need to take my headers off, pulleys ect. just to get to the back bank spark plugs??lol

nah ka and sr are relatvily easy to reach everything. on an s13 it is. s14 is more cramped (my friend had an s14) and my s13 is far easier. i can change the oil filter from above the car w/ ease and plugs and all that easily.

240sx has a lot of room in the engine bay. suspension stuff is straight forward as well. i'd say its pretty simple.

the 240sx is easy to work on compared to say a 300zx (especially under the hood)

compared to other cars today with their multiple computers, variable length intake runners, variable rocker arms and other engineering marvels, the 240 is pretty damn easy. which unfortunately, is another reason it is underpowerd.

the more electrical crap you add, the tougher it is to do yourself. OBDI stuff is a bit simpler than the OBDII.

The S13 has a variable intake, that's what the "swirl control valve" is for.

computers and technology don't necesarily add horsepower... take a base dodge neon for example much more of a PITA to work on than a 240 and it is slower ;)

My DOHC Neon was very easy to work on, though all I did with it was maintenance.

It was also faster than my 240SX, so...

you guys have never really worked on a honda have you? They are the smallest tiniest cars I have ever seen. My 240 is a breeze compared to my girlfreinds old CRX. That thing was so stupid and cramped. You have to almost take the whole car apart just to get to the belts.

Most RWD (especially i-4) cars are pretty easy to work on b/c the engine doesn't take up the entire width of the engine bay as it sits longitudinally. The 300ZX is a glaring exception (mainly b/c of a wider V-style engine and turbo piping). In FWD cars, the engine sits sideways/transversely, allowing the designers to cut the hood length (which cuts engine compartment room obviously).
I could probably climb over in my engine bay and shut the hood (well not really, but you get the idea).

I think 240s are pretty easy to work on. Most RWD cars are easier than FWD, just more room in the engine bay. I think BMW's are the also very easy once you learn their "system" of doing things, very well engineered cars.

My first cars were Fiats, talk about a pain in the ass! Everything is tiny, no room to work and rusted! Everyhting seems easy after that! They also built cars from the "parts bin" so they were not as well thought out as some others.

I do have to say the rear supension on 240s is pretty complex. They do take some thought to get them to behave you want them to. Lots of stuff going on back there.

Yeah more room in the engine bay, now you know where my t66 turbo is going. ^__^)

yeah id have to say 240s are easy to work on. but nothing as easy as the older mustangs i used to work on. some of the parts on the ka24de are placed weird (dam pcv. . . . ), and the thermostat was a pain in the a** for me to get at, but thats only cuz im used to domestics
