Okay.

S13.

Problem:
Window started not rolling up all the way, had 3 spots it would stop at without some assistace pulling on it. Would just make a grinding noise and get stuck, until one day it just quit working all-together.

after pulling out the regulator the gear was wabbly and the cable was broke.

So I replace it with one from LS1 car. SAME problem. Same result after 1 day.

Wash/rinse/repeat, and at this point I'm asking for advice.

Has anyone had this happen? Does anyone have any 1st hand advice?

do NOT post unless you have 1st hand advice, your usage of google.com , howstuffworks.com and wikipedia.com do not help anyone on the internet actually solve problems and save money on buying parts / doing work to whatever needs to be done.

thanks in advance.

My friend's Grand Caravan had this problem, they ended up replacing the metal track the window rides on. Don't know if the mechanism is the same as ours though.

The regulator can be adjusted in/out for alignment, have you messed with that at all? Having it aligned wrong can bind the glass as it moves up/down, putting a strain on the motor. You might also check the top guides to see if they're correctly set, if they're not lined up right the window reaches the 'top' on one side of the glass before the other, again straining the motor. Anytime the motor binds it puts pressure on the regulator with the gears taking the majority of the force.

the alignment is/was fine.

im just gonna eat it and take it to nissan, that way if it breaks again i have someone to yell at because thats apparently how the world works nowadays.
