OK... so this thread is spawned due to the "What would you do if shit hit the fan?" thread. When I was pre-military, I used to read all sorts of gun magazines so I actually had somewhat of an idea what was good and what was shit. I haven't kept up with anything but don't want to invest in a piece of crap. So if you had to arm yourself for whatever reason (Zombies,world demise,Obama) what weapons would you have on your list and why?

Military uses 5.56x45, 7.62x51, 9x19, and 12.7x99, so any weapon chambered in those calibers would have plentiful ammunition.

Police use 5.7x28, 5.56x45 (or .223 Rem, depending on the department), 7.62x51/308 Win, 9x19, 10x22 (40S&W), 11.43x23 (45 ACP) and maybe some oddballs in rural states are using 6.5 Grendel or 6.8SPC. Backup options would give you ammo in .327 Mag, .357 Mag, .38 SPL, .380, .44 Mag. Shotgun options would be 12- or 20-gauge.

Getting an AR in 5.56 is a good choice of a long arm. The 5.56 chambering can fire both 5.56 and .223 ammunition, something a .223 rifle cannot do safely. However, 5.56 is fairly weak if your targets are hardened, so a bolt gun in .308 Win would probably be best because it can fire military 7.62x51 as well as commercial .308.

Getting a Glock or Sig would be a good choice of a sidearm. Both offer very good reliability and are both very popular with many police departments. Finding parts would not be difficult. A 9mm chambering would allow the use of military ball ammo if needed. A .40S&W chambering, though, would allow use of many police departments' ammo. You can carry more rounds of 9mm than .40, and more rounds of .40 than .45. It's up to you.

Everyone needs at least one shotgun, and my choice would be a Remington 870/Mossberg 500 or 590 with a Knoxx stock. Increase mag capacity to 8, put a tritium ghost ring on there, and load it with 2 3/4" 00 buck, non-Magnum if you're not in a populated area, #4 if you're gonna be in apartment buildings.

you need ak 74 SU (short barrel submgun) for close combat or an AKM will work just fine.

if you wanna be a cheap ass, buy wasp-10 and just mod the pin. voila! full auto ak at 450$

double up with sidearm like a 9mm glock. will do the job just fine. its all about little recoil and mass amount of led to put in your enemy. plus ammo is cheap and abundant.

i would also recommend a shotgun but they arent my cup of tea

if you want to start out a full scale war you are going to need some armor, grenades. oh yea some rpg's would be good, but its hard to ship them state side.

it's always the people who are trying to fight the zombies that always turn into them in the movies. The best thing you could possibly do is take the hottest girl around you and run your ass off. Shoot. I'd need something powerful, accurate, and able to hold alot of ammo... and 1 gun is never enough for zombies/commies.

I'd have 2 colt 45s, an AK47 (lets face it, those things are indestructable lol) a 30-6, and a Tompson automatic, not to mention some bad ass body armor, because if its like city of the dead zombies, where they learn how to fire guns, or commies, then Im definately going to need protection... Oh yeah a 12 gauge semi auto, for those close incounters.

I'd also weld a 50 cal to my roof and have someone stick out the moon roof to fire it lol. Then some thich armor plating and some run flats. Battle BMW FTW.
