Okay, I bought a 89' fastback, I bought it for 300$.

When I first got it, the engine didn't crank nor run at all (duh).

But, after about 5 months of patiently waiting, I finally got a replacement engine with only 86K miles on it. nothing internally is wrong.

Im just going to throw out there that the gas in the tank is about 6 years old.

It also has no Res., no cat, or muffler, so its loud as $hit.

When I start it up, it wants to die right away.

In order for me to keep it running, I have to keep hitting the gas and keep it at about 2k rpm.

I do this for about 2-3min and it finally can idle at 1k by itself without me giving it a little gas.

My question is, could the gas be causing this? Could the exhaust seeing as it has almost NO back pressure?

If thats not the case, what is?

Thanks.

Yessir.

Don't worry, its not like I plan on running it like this for good.

Im getting an eBay cat-back 8-)

But would this be causing some of the problem?

Tomorrow I will try and get a video of it.

Well, I did put some octane booster in it hoping to give it the extra uhmph.

09-26-2008, 09:01 PM
did it work at all?

I didn't really see or feel a difference in how it started up and how it ran.

There is def. tons of misfiring when running straight headers.

Im gonna get like 20$ worth of 93 octane tomorrow and see if I see any progress.

Also, it looks like on the ex. manifold, where the o2 sensor is, it looks like the o2 sensor is there, but the wire got cut off. that cant be good?

that O2 sensor is where your problem. At least for the idle

okay, thats mainly what I wanted to fix.

you know 100% for sure that the problem?

Im just worried because im a 17 year old with no money and college coming up.

If it were the o2 sensor, would'nt I be getting a light on the dash indicating it?

you probably wont. You have a 20 year old cars. Shit wont work like its brand new. So Give it a tune up and slap on the exhaust. If you can change out the gas and get a new fuel filter while you are at it.

yeah I am also 17 =] and know exactly where your at I am on my second s13 already money is tight...yeah I am sure and if your check engine light is not already on (straight headers) then you have another problem like burnt out bulb or short ext. you should syphen the gas tank most deff new fuel filter and also run some techron in there be it the additive or just fill up at chevron

I know, but Its not like something is wrong going eBay cat-back.

Your basically just not paying for the name.

I could care less on how Loud and ricer it sounds, I just want a good flow.

And I don't have the money to be spending 500$ for a name when there is others that can to just as well.

Is replacing an o2 sensor and the fuel filter difficult?

and DIY's or walkthroughs would be great!

Thanks for the help to you guys!

Anymore insight?

Im gonna get an o2 sensor, fuel filter, 93 octane gas, cat-back and see how things go from there.

Anything else I should replace while im at it?

like I said earlier get some fuel additive like Techron to clean your injectors they are prob all nasty from the gas. O2 sensor is really easy should be directions on the box. just send me a P.M. if you need any help I will give you a call and explain it to you if you would like that better.
