View Full Version : Would you buy a new 240 if it came out?
exitspeed
09-26-2008, 03:43 PM
Say for the sake of argument, it came out and it was everything you wanted and expected. It was a great looking car, had good HP, nice 1.8lt or 2.0t engines, performed well, etc etc.
Would you buy one?
Could you buy one?
I'm really curious to see where the community of current 240 owners stand.

Probably, as long as there's a way to turn off ABS, Traction Control and stability control. And it has to have at least a VLSD stock.

It's hard to say. The market is really missing a basic, fun RWD car. Everything is either a vert, too quirky (RX-8 with rotary, weird styling), too big and heavy, etc. I don't see a new 240 weighing less than the S14 did though, especially at a reasonable pricepoint. Best I would hope for would be a ~3000 lb. car with typical current Nissan styling and okay power, but nothing too crazy to avoid stepping on 370Z toes. If it used a decent engine that could be upgraded easily and safely though, that woudl be fine. I don't see it happening though with manufacturers trying to raise fleet MPG and moving away from RWD cars. Plus, what motor would Nissan use? A RWD QR25? bleh
I'd rather see a small, light Z car with like a VQ30 or VQ25.

Assuming I could afford it and it had everythin I wanted, hm it depends on my job, if I am makin 70-90k then no I would go for the big bro GTR. If I was rankin in at around 40-69, then yes I might be lookin that way for a car to have fun with.
But I dont think it would be a DD, would probably have a BMW for that

I voted, yes on buying one the first or second year.
Assuming the car comes out in 2010, 2011/12 would be a good time for me to purchase a new car. It would be my daily, but I'd probably still not drive it in the winter. I'd autoX it as often as possible.
To me the car would be perfect if it was bare bones, 2.0t, 220-240hp, 2800-2900 lbs, low beltline, and I'd love if they had a two tone option. Pricing starting around $19k for stripped down model, and topping out around $28 with diff, nav, etc. I'd take a base model 2.t with diff as my only option. No wing, and probably no factory aero if it was offered depending on the look of the aero. Base wheels too.

You mean by voiding the warranty if you mod it? Almost all manufactures will do that. With the exception of the wheels. Don't expect any such strict regs on a car in this class. The car isn't going to be a wonder of the auto world like the GTR so there would be no reason for them to do that.

Nissan doesn't have room for another FWD car in their lineup...where would it fit with the Versa, Sentra, and Altima already existing in various hatch, coupe, and sedan versions?

If it were FR, approximate size of the S15, Designed as a follow on to the S-chasis (as in resembled the S15, 14, 13) had similar poer to the S15, I think Nissan would satisfy alot of people in the entry level sports car market (being the $25K range)
It would definately need to follow the S-chasis blood line though and carry on the styling from the S15.
SleepR 240sx
10-01-2008, 07:55 PM
As long as it lives up to the current S-chassis brand I would def consider it. In all honesty probably wouldn't be able to afford it off the bat.
2.0t, 220-240hp, 2800-2900 lbs, low beltline
Seems like this is exactly what they got in japan with the s14 silvia. 220hp sr20det, 2700lbs?....i think if they came out with the same thing here in the states it would do very well...especially with the 240 craze as it has been recently. Granted not as much now as it was but still.
I'd give anything to have a brand new s13 from the factory lol. Swap the motor and DONE. Don't have to mess around with the 17 year old problems i have now lol...but then again what would a 240 be without problems?
muddafakka
10-02-2008, 12:09 AM
I voted no mainly because I can't afford one at the moment.
Even if I had the money, I'd have to see the final product first and wait at least 2 or 3 years...or until there's sufficient aftermarket support. The same would apply to the small Infiniti coupe that's supposed to come out as well.
My main concerns are (specifically for the new S-chassis) :
-Will it be attractive and not look like all the other bars of soap on the roads nowadays?
-Can it perform?
-Will it be mod-friendly?
-Can the driving aids be turned off?
-Will it be under 3000 lbs.? (I understand it'll never be as lightweight as its predecessors but 2600-2700 shouldn't be an impossible task)
-Will Nissan keep their word and offer it at an affordable price?
If it meets or exceeds my expectations, I just might consider one. If not, then I'll check out the Toyabaru coupe.

There is no concept floating around. The closest thing FROM Nissan as a concept is the Urge and that concept is years old now. The concepts you are referring to are nothing more then magazines renderings of what they think it might look like. About the same as if I did a rendering.

I voted "no" for 2 reasons.
one: because I'm not in the financial possition to get one.
two: I wouldn't get it because I would somewhat want to modify it, but I would be very hesitant to buy a new car and void its waranty just because I modified it.
If I were to ever get a brand new car, it wouldnt be something I'd want to modify (anything 2 door)... it would more be a sedan or truck than anything.

Now that I think about it I may not. In 2011 I will have just graduated only a year ago (hopefully) and I will more than likely either be still paying on a BMW 328i or DD a 250sx (RB25). So I dont think I would be in a good position to buy a new or even used car.

Just FYI as a baseline, and it's funny because I was looking at new cars. Right now the only 2008-20009 model year vehicles I would realistically buy would be a Viper ACR, Corvette ZR1, Porsche GT2, Aston DBS, Ferrari 430, Jaguar XKR (for nostalgic reasons when my uncle used to drive me around in his jag when I was a child), MB S65 (to spite my aunt).
Several years ago I would have ranked the 430 higher than the DBS but times change and so has my taste.
I have definitely outgrown small displacement high strung Japanese cars.
The only way I would buy a new 240 would be:
a) they gave the car some real balls with a supercharged V8 or something to that effect, or
b) they revived the 180SX fastback body a la kouki 180SX style. I would definitely buy one and swap in a V8.

you can find extremely low mileage ap1 s2000's for waaayyyy less than 20k, what are you guys talking about. 15k can get a a basically new s2k, 2003 year with 25,000 miles for 15k. thats where i am going after i win tihs lemon law case on my mazdaspeed 3, that or a volvo s60r. depends how ballsy i feel about driving my sr240 on the street once i get it back from body/paint shop.

i already have an s chasiss. when i buy another car, it will be a truck/suv and a trailer so i can tow my 240sx. i dont need 2 sports cars. it would be nice and all, but just a waste of money.

oh and yeah it was a rwd coupe with a turbocharged 4 i would buy the 240sx in a heartbeat. it it's an na v6, not so much, i would take a turbo i4 over a bigger hp v6 any day just for the modding benefits. plus, what does nissan/infiniti need another six cylinder coupe for.
and to the guy who said he would only buy it if it was a v8 or supercharged v8, that's blasphemy, everything the s chasis is not supposed to be about.
all they need to do is bring the s15 here and they would outsell any car that would be considered near it's competition, no more purpose for a 135i. my two cents.

I don't see why they would make it heavier than the z.
and the genesis is closer to 3k.

actually its 3550...
cars are only getting heavier (stricter safety standards). i dont see a cheap sport compact getting any fancy weight saving stuff either

I always say to myself, if i had the chance to buy an s13 brand new right now, i'd be willing to pay 15k for a brand new 0 miles s13, even if i could find a used evo for that price, i rather go with the s13. Call me stupid, but i'm in love. If a new 240 were to come out and it wasn't all electrically controlled like the new gt-r and was more of a drivers car, i'd be game. An added plus would be factory recaro's, but i know that wont happen.

Well imho, I agree with the V8 statement, but not the rest. Their 6cyls (V6 AND INLINE) are what MADE Nissan what it is today! The S-Chassis helped, but c'mon!! The 240 and 260Z?! The Maxima?! The SKYLINE?! THE GT-R??!! They're a SPORTS CAR company! Honda is good with 4cyls, they're good with 6's. THAT'S what they need with another 6cyl! RAW POWER! TRUE TO LIFE BALLS!!
But i'd do what others have said if they had another 240 out (240, 250, SX, Z whatever...). I'd wait a few years to let them work the kinks out...and wait til the first model drops in value, then buy it for FAR LESS than new. THEN swap in a 3.5 or 3.7L V6 and turbo that!!
I ALWAYS SAID that the FIRST 240SX should've come with a 6cyl from the factory.
And the 135i can beat a new or used M3, and the 335i due to it's LIGHTER WEIGHT, RAW POWER, AND TURBOS. Power to weight ratio is nice. So idk about a new 2.0T 240 "beating anything near it's competition" without more gusto - from the factory.
would prob cost tooo much for a 240 as famous as they are now days lol

it would have to follow in the S15 footsteps. S16??? It MUST be turbo with many engine options.....not that this is practical, but, no N/A motors. Your choice of a turbo 4 or turbo 6. This way I can stay mod-potential happy.
Good weight balance must be retained and light, nimble and handling a must. it would have to STILL be a number one contender in the drift scene as far as driftability. not too much computer controlled functions. traction control and limits have to be easily overriden.
maybe a nice brembo brake option? :)
some kinda bolstered seat (ie. 350Z)
keep it simple stupid and under 25K's and I'd be all up in that like the creme in a boston kreme donut

Considering where the car styles are going to now........theres no way in hell a 2011 or 2012 240sx would look good unless they went completely old school on its ass and not slapping ricey stuff on like those new sti's wings......jesus christ they look perfect without tho

duh! i mean it has the perfect naming convention for Scion. For sure as hell they aren't going to call it a Corolla.

The rps13 sold great in japan and S15 looks sooo Nice it be nice to re-do both a coupe and a fastback from Nissan. Japan needs to make more exciting RWD like before.
Gt86 its awesome I want one I have a hatch AE86 right now but will Toyota release a hatchback 86GT in future old school looking with mechanical LSD?....
I must admit Sucks that the 86GT was released as a Scion in the US. Just slap a Toyota one! :3

been there a few times bro...depreciation hurts like a mofo on trade ins and stuff. first new car i bought was '04 sentra spec v, was fun...then traded in for '05 maxima, that was hella fun but not more new... 2-3 years used is perfect.

depreciation only hurts if your indecisive and plan to resell/get money for it in a few years. Buy a car for a long term investment and get your money's worth. If you're one to keep trading in cars after a few years, that is just a bad investment and money management all together. Buy something you want/need for practical use and run it till it dies. ex. Truck- for towing, Escalade- picking up bitches at the club, Convertible lebaron- picking up underage girls at the mall. You get the point.
