I have just purchased a used R33 GTST Type M brakes front and rear, they are 296mm x 30mm front and 296mm x 18mm rear. I have couple questions regarding this Skyline brakes.

1) They are heavier than I expected from an aluminium caliper. Are all the Skyline brakes, including GTR, GTS, GTST and R32, aluminum?

2) On the back of the front rotor printed 28mm, so is this means they are 28mm thick? However, I measured the thickness, and it is 30mm.

3) Are the calipers generic black (except Vspec brembos)? mine is not, they do not have any color.

4) Lastly, I searched, but any good link for a clean to repaint walkthrough on brakes?
Thanks guys.

pictures would help but i have ECR33 brakes front and rear and they are a grey color, to paint them anything different you have to strip that coating off with a bead blaster because the paint just wont stick right. the 28mm stamped on the rotor is the minimum refinishing thickness. And mine do seem to weigh quite a lot but im pretty sure they are all aluminum check for distinct circles on the front of the caliper over the pistons...distict means iron...ovalish means aluminum

the distinct circle you mentioned only apply to Z32/R32 30/26mm calipers correct? The iron calipers they have are two seperated circles in the front, but on the other hand, the aluminum one has two circle stick together.

the v-spec ones will be black and say brembo in white

the 28mm probably is the minimum thickness i would assume... so you should be good for now.

it is. just about all rotors have an imprint of the minimum thickness before discarding the rotor.

1. its not a tin can. xxchrurroxx said his gts-t brakes were iron...ive read mine were not. i didnt care. venting is also different on the various brakes along with caliper size.

2. measuring points can be different

3. brembos were the only ones black, any other color of your brakes is due to wear/chemicals used. they should clean up to a hazy brushed steel look or like mine pictured below if they still have the factory coating on them.

4. i dont have a link, but its not suggested by some shops. you should want maximum breathing for your brakes. generally its brake cleaner, wire brush/wire wheel and good caliper paint. id send mine out to one of our Zilvia advertisers TRG Coating for powder coat http://zilvia.net/f/advertiser-specials-sales/157197-powder-coating-services-back-zilvia-again-tons-cores-stock-ready.html

my front R32 GTR brakes. they were is great condition and i cleaned them just a bit with brake cleaner.

Yea, I have the big non-brembo R33 brakes.

Getting rotors is a bitch, I need new ones and don't know what to do.

1. Use a magnet to find out what you have.

2. minimum thickness.

3. Yours will be unfinished (beyond a sealer coat). BNR32 and Brembo brakes are painted.

4. You're better off powdercoating. Paint will peel at the mere mention of brake fluid.

you could get them straight from japan (OE or aftermarket ones). Check out TunerLab.jp (http://www.tunerlab.jp)
Contact Daryl and see what he can get you. He can ship them from Japan to anywhere in the world. I've dealt with him many times, he's a super cool guy..

Hmmmm, ok. I still need to measure mine exactly, but process of elimination is telling me I have the weird ones.

I'll give him a shout, that would be awesome to get the right ones.

You could also check somebody like ENDLESS or NISSAN

I haven't found anyway to get them through Nissan, and I just want stock replacement rotors, not a Endless BBK or 2 piece rotors or anything, no need.

I just got BNR32 GTR oem rotors from Nissan here....

Give it a shot.

Yeah, I got brand new fronts and rears.
drilled OEM GTR rotors.

Try to ask some of the Nissan dealers in Southern California.

BNR32's are kept in stock though cuz of the z32 guys, skyline rotors will be custom order. That's why I kept my BNR32 brakes instead of switching them to R34 GT-T brakes (biggest non-brembo brakes), too hard to find the right rotors for a decent price.

You might try seeing if anyone has the endless basic rotors stateside, might be almost same price as OEM + shipping.
