hello, i own an 89 240sx, blown engine, auto tranny. i bought it this way last year as a project car for dirt cheap. i plan on doing an sr swap in the next few months, but am just wondering if there are going to be any complications on converting a auto ka powered car into a sr 5sp car. im aware of the work into both swapping in a 5sp and the sr, and am now wondering if there may be anyproblems by doing both at once, thanks, matt

It is a royal pain!
If you buy an entire front clip from a silvia then you don't have to find all the bits and pieces(if the clip has everything) so it makes it a little easier. But then you have to adapt everything onto your 240. It gets complicated so what I recommend is....

Buy a 5pd 240. They are not expensive or hard to find. Sell the auto 240 for cheap(what you paid) as a project car(like when you bought it)

You can try the swap if you want yourself(gonna piss you off)
Or you can get rapped(the bill they hand you) in the @$$ by a shop by having them do it for you.

I don't know the specifics of this swap for a 240(never tryed it)
But if you still wanna do it then search around to find out what parts you need from the silvia clip and where they go.

Good Luck

I disagree, it's not a horrendous amount more work, if you're already swapping an entire engine and transmission anyway. Beyond the normal SR swap work, you have to hang the pedals, bolt up the clutch master cylinder, and connect the clutch lines (which won't come from the clip - RHD clutch lines are different).

my SR and 5spd were done at the same time, makes the most sense that way, and isn't that big a deal (or at least taht's what I was told, heh, I don't trust my own personal workmanship on things so important).

Besides, what else would u do? try to find an auto SR tranny? ick. plus it'd be really hard and expensive (someone would prolly have to have it specially imported for you).

No worries :)

thanks for the replies. i was originally looking for a 5-sp 240 but gave up after a few months and found my beater, sorry "project", for only a few hundred. my plan was to get my car on the road, do the sr swap, build it up and eventually a year or so down the line get an s14 and swap most of it. i just dont have the money to do both right away. starting to lean towards picking up a s14 and just being patient, but it is so damn hard!! haha matt

The kouki S14('97-'98) looks way better than the zenki '(95-'96) but there is just something about the S13 that is so damn charming!!

Good Luck

Its not hard to do the auto to 5 speed swap . If you go to the archives and faq section you will see a faq about the swap parts, how to do it and prices. Plus if you are going SR what AKAdriver said is completely true its not that much work.

Installing an SR is "not much work"? You're kidding, right?
Please stop giving out bad information. You have no idea what other peoples technical skills are.
Your advice does more harm than good.

hey James, do you know how to read? they guy was asking about a auto to 5 speed swap when he does his SR. AKAdriver was not telling him the SR swap was not much work.
he was telling him the auto to 5 speed swap is not that much work . Which it really is not.
Having done it on more than one car and having had it done for Yoshi's car. I can back him up on his statement. You need to learn to read the posts more closely before posting your rebuttals.
