If it's body panel rust you could just replace the panels. but if it's on the unibody itself; ie, fender wells, frame rail, under subframe, or any other significant piece it may be worth getting a rust free or almost rust free shell and swapping parts over to it. But it all depends on the rust, like if it's a little surface rust it's not too bad but if you got big holes then get rid of the car.

considering shells are cheaper to get, i wouldnt worry about fixing it. either get a nice shell and swap parts over, or get a new car and take yours to the scrap yard.

if you are in NY you could find a shell for 3-500. spend that 2-3k on progressive body work or engine mods. or pizza...lots of pizza

It depends on how bad it is and where exactly it is, like everyone else has said. Do you have any pics? If it's on anything structural (ie. frame rails) I would say put that 2-3k into a new 240 or a new shell and use the left over $$ for parts and upgrades.
Lots of pizza isn't a bad idea either though...

If you have a welder or know someone with one, you can do most of the work yourself. It's expensive because it requires a significant amount of time - that's the biggest cost.

If you are debating on getting a new shell or paying for that i would definitely get a new shell. Like munsonauto said you could spend that money on PIZZIA! Enless you like wasting cash for shits and giggles.

New shell, if there is rust then you should double check because there might be rust all over the car and wouldnt be worth fixing at all. will end up costing more than buying a rust free shell.
