Well, it'd help if we knew what engine it is, what its in, and where you got it.

so its not a new engine, its a used engine that's been sitting for the last 10 years in a junkyard in japan, shipped over in a wooden box exposed to the saltwater, and then sat in a warehouse for a year.

Sounds like you have a dead miss, and your IAC might be bad, or a vacuum leak, or... 10 other things. something like this, hell, there is no 1 answer to it.

First thing: check for spark. if all 4 cylinders have spark, get a uh... shit whats it called... it checks to see if the injector is firing. I have one at the shop... just cant think of the name. Napa or o'reilly's will rent you one. Then make sure you have all the vacuum lines hooked up correctly, and test your IAC. Then test your MAF, just to be on the safe side. YOur timing could be off, or it could be your CAS, which will sometimes do the same thing if its broken. At least on a DSM it will, but their 4G63 turbo engine is WAY different than an SR20DET.

this happened to me too. it sounds like a subby right? i found out it was a cylinder not firing due to malfunctioning fuel injector.

Mine sounded like a subie too. I believe it was because I had 87 octane gas from my previous engine and it had clogged the injectors a bit. I cleaned the injectors and made sure the wires were securely plugged in and it worked better than ever. Oh and also make sure there is no exhaust leaks...mine sounded like a diesel when I had exhaust leaks.

Mine had the Subbie Sound too...w/ NO MISS

turns out if was the Turbo Gasket to the mani.
replace it...check for spark in all.

or more info.

Punctuation? Complete sentences? Grammar.

Sometimes it sounds like a harley/Lawn mower if you have no exhaust or have an exhaust leak.

Thats how mine sounded when I first installed it an ran with no exhaust pipe.
