i have an SR in my 89 240. after the swap it started and ran perfect for 3 days then i, being the genius that am, fried the ignitor chip while trying to jump start the car. now i put a new ignitor chip in and am getting spark as well as fuel. why won't the car start? if anyone has any ideas i owuld greatly appreciate it.

What exactly happens when you turn the key?

the engine turns over but doesn't fire. i think i've narrowed it down to the timing but i haven't been able to get out there and set it, it's damn cold outside right now.

Open up the cap, remove the wires and the distributor and see if the rotor turns at all, or turns slow. Post back.

there is no distributor, it's an SR.

Unless it's retarted or advanced to all hell (which I doubt since you said it ran before) I wouldn't think it was timming. It should at least catch and die if that was the case.
Good luck!
Give us some more details and we'll be able to help you out further.

when checking to see why it wasn't starting the first time i pulled out the CAS and played around with it so when i put it back in it obviously wasn't in the correct position. that is why i'm guessing it is timing.
