I have a 95 240sx and there is a slight tapping noise under the cylinder head cover. I used the screwdriver-stethescope trick and found out that its right where the cam timing chain is. I have yet to take off the cover and look myself, could it be the chain on the cover. By bro says it could also be valve tap but i dont think so. Any ideas anyone???

CORRECTION:

Tapping noise is on valve cover, i put cylinder cover, im an idiot.

Well i think the noise is my timing chain, can anyone tell me how exactly to tell or should i just take it into the shop and get them to diagnose and fix it???

It could very well be your chain rattling against the upper guide. The guides from factory are plastic, and many times begin to chip away--especially the top guide, close to the valve cover area. This issue has been discussed many, many times on this forum, so you will learn more than you could ever imagine about this.
