I've been looking at Cyberdyne gauges and on their product line of speedometers, it includes digital Odometers.
I've read that if, for example, your OEM odometer goes bad and stops working and you decide to replace it with a used odometer I've been told that you have to document it for your insurance company and if you ever decide to sell your vehicle.
The big question I have is, if anyone knows, would I be able to remove my OEM odometer and replace it with the digital version and document it without any problems from say the insurance company.
The only reason I'm asking is I saw this thread: http://zilvia.net/f/chat/186605-s13-custom-cluster.html
and noticed a lack of Odometer. I like the setup, but would like to add an aftermarket odometer in order to mount it to my liking.

Dakota Digital will send you an odometer that has whatever mileage you need it to say.
Is it possible to put my vehicles odometer reading on the Dakota Digital gauges or do I have to start at zero miles? I looked at the installation instructions but could not find how to set the odometer.
Dakota Digital gauges come from the factory at zero miles unless you specify that you want the odometer set. Dakota Digital can set the odometer on our digital gauges to a specific mileage reading. It must be done at the factory and there is a $20 charge for this service. If you do not specify that you want your odometer preset then it will be shipped from the factory at zero miles.

I do not know what the deal is in Japan. I do know in California if your car is 10 years old or older the DMV does not even care about mileage. Nor do the Insurance companies beyond you stating how much you drive the car per your for the cost of your premiums.
The only time you might run into and issue with the Insurance company is if your car got wrecked and it had more mileage than they figured it should. Though I have been down that road as well and no one ever said anything about the mileage being more than it should.
I think your worrying about a very minor issue that most insurance companies would not completely freak out over.

exactly, here, anything over 10 years old is "MILAGE EXEMPT". literally says that in big bold letters on the title too.

I'm in Japan now, but i'm moving back to the states (Southern California) this coming December. I guess when I do the swap, i'll take pics of both odometers and document it.
