Sometimes the oil gets way too hot in my S14, i can hear it bubbling. does this mean something's wrong with my engine or do i just need an oil cooler? I've been told SR20s have oil cooling problems from factory but seems pretty strange to me. my engine is pretty much stock so i don't see what could be abnormally heating my oil.

EDIT: also how much of an effect does using different oils have on the temp? i'm going to use magnatec 10w40 on my next change, what do other people use in their SRs?

How the hell do you hear the oil bubbling?!?! I can understand you hearing your coolant boiling but not oil...get an oil temp gauge, if youre oil temp gets pass 110, you might wanna think about investing on some oil cooler. Oil starts breaking down once it starts hitting 120-130 oil temp range, all dependent on what kind/brand oil it is.

i have a hunch you are hearing the "oil bubbling" especially after you shut down... do a coolant flush and do the bleeding correctly and see if it your issue persists (or occurs much less)

um oil doesnt break down at 120f why dont you think all other cars run at 180-190f nowadays if thats the case junk yards would be full of new shinny cars anywho its you coolant man nothing to worry about if you havent overheated and you havent seen steem from under your hood no worrys mine does the same thing if you dont believe me pop the hood after you drive it one and listen to the coolant resovior or the radiator you will see what im talkin about
