Well, this seems like an ample place to post this, so here it goes. Just to give you a quick tun down before I get into this. This project is going on 2 years now. So there were some large gaps in time between pictures.

Also keep in mind I stuck with the same year motor to avoid having to go through the smog ref's office.

The car is a 1990 Nissan 240sx Piggy FTW! :D

The car came with the crappy rims which will eventually be replaced with some enki 16x7's

Had the car for a few months and the Headgasket decided to blow on me (previous owner was a shoddy mechanic). Instead of replacing the headgasket on this on I decided to pick up a low mileage motor for $800.
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g39/eomund1/HPIM0046.jpg

Started out by cleaning it up, getting all the residual grease off of it.

The heat shield was in horrible condition. Apperantly it's impossible to get ones in good condition these days so I painted the thing.
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g39/eomund1/HPIM0817.jpg
It's a high heat engine paint, and I used a high heat primer so I should be good.

I also prepped the Valve cover for paint.

Finally pulled the old motor out:

And said byby to the 85lb AC system:

I had my prepped valve cover out to a buddy of mine to have powder coated which unfortunately happened to be around a hurricanes schedule so it took a while to get done:

First problem since It was put back in was the water pump froze up on me. I replace the water pump with a brand new one and also replaced the thermostat as well.

After that, the sucker stalled on me on the way to Kragen. Got a tow from my Dad and checked it out on the way home. Well, it seemed to be running super lean and I assumed that was the issue, being as all the electrical seemed fine. Honestly this was a good chance to go through all that anyways being as my check engine light was on before.

I pulled off the manifold to replace all the hoses and clean everything up.

I'm replacing it with the one on my old engine, but taking the better stuff from the new.

My dad was screwing around with the camera:

He was having me act like I was smoking the intake.

Some of the fuel injectors were cracked and broken on the old engine, So Ima gonna go with the new ones.

A comparison shot of the old (top) with the new (bottom).

As I showed above, I completely went through the entire fuel system replacing parts as needed. The hoses were in horrid shape.

Going through the system, I replaced every single hose, litterally (vacuum I mean). I also replaced most of the fuel lines. I also replace multiple diaphragms, most notible the fuel damper.

Turns out this wasn't the problem, but was needed very badly so I don't really feel bad doing it.

This led me to believe it could be an electrical issue, quite possibly a short some where causing something not to work right. Well I checked the injectors, and did continuity tests along the important wiring and everything seemed AOK. This was leading me to suspect something more serious, either a problem with the distributor, or even the ECU.

I started with the timing because it's the easier and cheaper one to test. I started by trying to check the timing while someone turned the car over for me under the batteries strength. That's when I noticed soemthing. The timing light was giving me flashes at what seemed to be random intervols. This intrigued me.

I manually checked the Timing with TDC. I noticed it was close, but slightly off. That's when I saw it, in one of the little cavities inside the distributor, the bolt that doesn't allow the thing to spin freely had fallen out and was hiding from me.

This was one of the first things I checked when this happened, but I didn't notice the bolt missing so I just continued from there without looking back. Well I attached the bolt and she runs again http://209.85.48.16/4801/125/0/e5000334/e5000334.gif

Granted, while working on it, one of peices for the valve cover gasket (new too), so I ended up with oil sprayed all over the fire wall. Didn't really care though, just replaced it and cleaned up the oil. I was just happy that we had life. Even better, the check engine light appears was off, probably due to me going through the fuel system.

Got her smogged and registered this week. And she sits right out side in my work parking lot.

I have some new pictures, I just need to get them off my camera.

Also, the bearing for the power steering pump pulley is going bad. It's already ordered and if UPS tracking is correct, then it's at my home on my porch as we speak.

I'm also working on trying to hunt down a stock fan shroud. Mine was in about 6 pieces and was more a hazard than a help.

That's it right now. Lik I said, I'll get some more pics up later.

Looking good so far but damn $800 for a SOHC they can't give those motors away around here can probably get one for under $100

It's a low mileage engine. I have documentation that there's only 40k miles on the clock. I was willing to pay for that. I know I could've gotten one for way cheaper, but I figured, if I was gonna do the work, throw something young in there.

And the 2 years went to lack of funds. I'd buy parts I needed one peice at a time. Sadly I can't give my car priority over my bills.

Ya, I kept the SOHC for 3 reasons. The first being, I didn't want to have to deal with re-plumbing the power steering. Second, I learned that if I'd swap the motor, I'd have to take it to a smog rep and let them look at it for a week. And most of all, I came from a Corolla SR5 with 65bhp on a good day. I knew I'd only gain about 10hp from the swap and I already had almost 3 times the power I was use to. That seemed enough to me.
