These are SPL s13 differential aluminum bushing. I have a z32 vlsd with fresh redline diff fluid.
Car feels solid. I haven't tried launching so I cant comment on that yet.

do you also have the solid aluminum subframe bushings?
i have the latter and wonder how much sexier i would be with those.

Damn I bet those sound wonderful when you let off the throttle in fourth gear.
How is the interior you bought from my bro holding up?

Interior is good other than a few broken tabs and i spilled some oil on the rear carpet behind the driver =(.
I also have peak performance subframe bushing and tanabe sway in the rear.

i have them on my s14. they are pretty loud for what they are. but hardly unbearable. roll down the windows and you won't notice the extra noise.

does the diff bushing make noise at all?

I've been thinking about getting these, as I'm getting a crucial clunk, and I'm pretty sure it's the diff bushings.
I have the subframe bushings already ;)
reccakun08
08-18-2008, 09:05 AM
Yeah i HAD a clunk too. No more clunking! Although it is quite a bit louder as aznpoopy mentioned nothing unbearable. You do notice a bit more vibration as it is solid bushings but it mixes in with stiff coilovers/swaybar/strutbars/powerbraces/subframe/motor mounts etc..

How the fuck do bushings make noise?
They just sit there.
What you'll hear is all the noises that the diff makes transmitted through those solid bushings and onto the subframe, which will transmit that noise into the cabin one way or another.

That's what his was for.
But J30, S14 and Z32 diffs all have those bushings on the diff. S13s don't have those bushings and mounts solidly.

there's a "tock" noise when the driveline is not under load

Do you already have solid subframe bushings?
Because I don't.
I have the aluminum subframe collars, and pretty sure my stock rubber subframe bushings are toast, so even though I have the collars, the subframe still kinda clunks from the stock bushings being so far gone that it probably still allows for some sort of movement when my wheels skip due to the welded diff.
Sorry for the run-on sentence.

They do not. The OE bushing has a flat portion up top as well, but it gives a little when tightened. This brings it back to OE spec.

Which is why I prefer the S13 diff case over the S14, Z32, or J30 ones, since the front just mounts solidly onto the subframe without having to buy silly bushings, and you can get them in the junkyards or friends for next to nothing.
But I guess if you had an S14/J30/Z32 VLSD and don't want to swap the guts of the diff into an S13 case, then spending the mula for those bushings would be worth not having to get dirty and sweaty for the guts swap.

Same here, after I switched to a welded differential and put on some PBMax sub frame collars my rear end clunks so much! Do you guys get the clunking when you guys clutch in or when letting off the throttle? Mine got pretty bad to the point when I shift my whole tranny shakes, but it was easily fixed by a more solid tranny mount :]

My rear still clunks in the differential and sub frame section. Sorry if I made you misunderstood me. It just that my tranny doesn't shake anymore. Just waiting for a more detailed review and see if this fixes the unknown rear clunking.

Hah, ya I dont know why, but my tranny seems to load up sometimes (you can feel it load up, then let go as you clutch in to shift) its hard to describe but it's a weird feeling for sure.

For s13 you have a 4 bolt plating in the back with no bushing. I think the s14 and z32 have a rear 2 bolt plating with 2 bushings (not sure).

I dunno.
Check your bolts to your driveshaft/axles/diff bolts? maybe something has loosened up

No its for an s13 with z32/s14 differential since the s13 diff never needed a front bushing.

Well i know my clunking was from my diff since there was some play from the beat rubber bushing. Also if you dont have subframe bushing you should give it a shot since the stock subframe bushing is most likely done therefore causing some play in the subframe causing some clunking noise

This guy has the idea.... When I went with the 2way cusco lsd I bought a s13 diff for like $20 and got that swapped....
I was originally going to buy the bushings till I found out the s13 diff does not use bushings.
The noise is hardly noticable over the s14 diff with bushings and it clunks just the same. (previously had cusco 2 way in s14 diff)

Kinda of an old bump but i figure a lot of people have weird clunking noise due to a welded diff. I just welded mine up today and shit it clunks. Feels like my subframe is about to fall off. I have solid motor mouts solid tranny mounts and kazama subframe spacers. So i'm guessing as someone said thats its the fact that i have spacers not full bushing so my stock one allows some play. So people with this problem chime in and get as much info we can.

yes, the spacers within time destroys the rubber bushing in the subframe which can lead to the horrible clunking.
The solution would be either go with solid subframe bushings, Nismo harder rubber, or polyurethane(forgot the company name).

Only noise people are complaining about in this thread is the clunking noise associated with probably shot stock subframe bushings when used with subframe collars.
I have that clunking, it's annoying as fuck, and it's loud. It also feels like you broke something in the car, but that's how it feels.
There were talk of using the solid bushings eliminating that sort of clunk, which I don't have first hand experience with, so I cannot say whether or not it will prevent it from clunking anymore.
There are right ways to do things, and then there are half-assed way to do it.
IMO the collars are sort of a half-assed way of doing things, but since it works for most people it has been accepted as a performance upgrade, but it does have its short comings.

Yes, but it's a tight work space. The diff must come out (obviously) but you're still fighting for room at the back.

i have these bushings on my s14. i have all subframe and diff bushings
actually i am missing the two sub frame diff bushings towards the rear of the subframe
with aluminum subframe spacers and diff bushings (- 2 of the bushings that go into the subframe) it's pretty loud. tomei 2 way. also get vibration whine from the driveshaft when in gear.

I have the SPL subframe and diff bushings with a welded diff. I'm not sure what it would sound like with a full interior and all the sound deadening. Without rear interior and most of the sound deadening removed it's pretty loud, and you can definitely hear and feel the gears in the diff. I'm not complaining though, I drive the car to work at least a few days a week and sometimes all week. It is what it is and sacrifices have to be made sometimes.

ditto i have the full spl setup and tomei tech trax advance and it is LOUD AS SHIT!, but the solid feel and overall difference that was made is hands down one of the best "upgrades" done to the suspension on the car to bring together the rear of the car.
P.S. the off throttle 4th gear scenario is not your friend lol don't be scared when it goes
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!! it is merely everything that should be dampened by the old rubber setup. And if you have a diff the tick/clunky noise is your diff at work don't freak out.

bringing this thread back from the dead, they dont slide in the s14 diff as i thought, its late now, so ima work on it tommorrow, but do you rubber mallet it in or what are some tips you just used?
EDIT
found out i needed to cut the ring that was still in the front mounting holes lol

I used a rubber mallet. They fit snugly. No bashing/freezing as with subframe bushings. U can use some metal to metal bonding glue if u wanna go the extra mile

get energy suspension ones.
notice that "not bad at all" answers? meaning it sucks. lol
you can use 1/2" washers for you diff mounting bolts. Uses about 5 pieces each side.

Ah I see lol
I heard of energy suspension having problems of falling right out of the subframe. I saw a pic. Something about the washing being on top when logically it should be on the bottom. Some people complain on the design

solid spacers bushigns whatever on the rear end of the car IS NOT BAD. it's marginally louder, barely anything really. it doesn't suck at all, people make it sound a lot worse than what it really is and it really is almost nothing.
What is really bad are solid engine mounts. good oem bushigns in the subframe to solid metal bushigns in the same frame's maybe a 1-3 db louder. nismo motor mounts to solid motor mounts is like 10-15+ db increase in noise

Solid motor mounts is a bad idea becuase it will vibrate all your shit loose and will be noisy. But differential bushings are totally different story. Other end of the car and improves driving feel. really it's fine

WAT???
The Spl diff bushings (for s14 since 13 diff was solid mounted)
Go from the back of the diff cover, to the subframe, and replace the rubber bushings that used to be there, and also, on the two "ears" on the snout of the diff, next to where the driveshaft flange mates up.
