View Full Version : Lock Cylinders.

I searched but didn't really have any luck.
Most threads I found were about people wanting to use Solex locks, Silvia locks, and people having power lock problems. I don't need any of that, I'm happy with stock locks.
What I want to know is, can you replace pins on our door lock cylinders? I have an S13. I know house deadbolts are easy to change pins on, but I have absolutely no experience on car locks. Basically, I'm sick of having to shake my key in the locks all the time to get it to turn, it's really worn out, and I hate it. I have manual locks, and plan to keep it that way, so adding power locks isn't really an option. If I took all the cylinders out and took them to a locksmith could they rebuild all of them and make new keys?

your best bet would probably be to get a lock set out of a part out. from what I've seen of the door locks. they look pretty sealed. but I know what your talking about. mine freeze up really easy in the winter. actually broke a couple keys. my brother coupe. his driver side door lock actually completely broke turned the key and it just kept turning haha. any thought about going to the dealer? how expensive would that be?

I'm more then certain a locksmith can re-key your locks so you only have to use one key for all locks, like if you had to replace a door lock cylinder. I would just call your local locksmith to find out about how much it that would cost. You can get a brand new complete lock set from Nissan for about $200. Here is a link to the new lock sets: http://www.courtesyparts.com/betasite/240sx-s13-1989-1994/genuine-nissan-parts/miscellaneous/998-key-set-blank-key/-c-1418_1419_1578_1588.htm
That's both doors, new trunk lock, glovebox cylinder, and two main keys and a valet key. I kind of have the same problem you have but multiple keys. Drivers door and ignition are one key, passenger door lock won't work with a key, glove box is another key and the trunk is yet another key. Too many keys for a two door car. I looked into re-keying mine but decided to just get a new lock set...then decided to get a Silvia lock set (very hard to find, was told I got the last one in Japan that Nissan had in stock). Going to install mine soon as my broken finger/hand heals. Cost about $100 more then the USDM lock set but I thought it was worth it. Pictures:

Your thread was actually one of the more useful ones that I found. But I wasn't able to find the lockset on Courtesy Nissan. The link you provided didn't work.. for me at least. I also couldn't find it searching their website for "240sx lock" or "240sx key." I'll have to give a locksmith a call to see what they can do. But if they can't make them feel new again, I'd rather replace them.

Nico should have a thread on repinning the 240sx trunk lock. It's pretty much the same with the door locks and glove box lock. Luisgonz mentioned to me it can be done to the ignition cylinder as well, but I haven't tried that.
Simply put, yes you can repin your door locks. Get some from the junkyard and repin them or you can PayPal me $100 and I'll go to the junkyard and get you a whole set.

I've had trouble posting links for their website before. Just click the link...it gives an error but will shortly go to the homepage. In the far left column you will see the car models...click on the 1989-1994 240sx. Click on "Visit our new website" at the top...then click Genuine Nissan Parts in the left column or the right side of the page. Click the box listed Miscellaneous. Then click 998 Key Set & Blank Key. You will come to a diagram...mouse over the number 80010S and click it...that will take you to all the different models of key sets. Hope this helped...sorry I couldn't just link the page...website is a little funny.

Oh man. Thank you so much. That's exactly what I was looking for.
If I can't figure out repinning them, I'll order a brand new set.

Find a good locksmith in your area and have them do it.

Before you waste money on new locks get some graphite spray from Home Depot or lowes, put the straw on it, shoot some on the key and into the locks. Insert key over and over until the locks unfreeze. Repeat as necessary. They also have one you can spray in the locks for temperature freezes too. I've done this several times and learned about it the first time I took one of my cars to the locksmith and that was all he did then charged me $50.

I just tried the graphite, but had no luck. I think my locks are past that point. The key goes in the slot and still has a lot of play in it. I think they're just super worn out.
The 180sx locks are nice, but I don't need anything that extravagant. They'll just get all worn out again anyways.

Wow...that set is pricey. Plus it's for a hatchback, and he needs one for a coupe.
