how come everybody wants to pay for the sleepy eyes when you can get it free. . . I guess the pros are that you can adjust the lights from inside your car all the time?

I think there is a right up on this in 240sx.org's FAQs

I like the sleepy eye look. But I heard it was a pain in the ass to do yourself without any kit. Is this true?

Also both your headlights may be at different levels of height because they could be worn out. (When you use a controller or home made rig)

ex = one headlight slightly higher that other

Yea its a pain in the ass because you have to put your lights on and then open the hood and adjust the lamps, but this is only if you go the free route of doing it yourself.

Well.. no body kit but it has sleepy eyes. This was just adjusted by hand. I bought a Pivot controller and just like they said, the lights are at different angles due to different motor speeds.

sph33r, could you post pics of your car from different angles? i'm thinking of painting my coupe flat black.

or if you have a website with pics, that would be even better. thanks.

I did a total DIY setup on a bet. And it works.

http://www.geocities.com/velocityyokohama/diy/180lights.html

There might be minor differences for you USDM guys. But if you can verify the wire colors in your cars....they might just be the same.

Like others said. They might/will not stop at the same level...mine don't and my car is a 94.

The damn pivot controller here is $100. And is a Pain to instal. Lazy people pay around $50 to have it put in....

So I saved myself $150 roughly.

Those are stock wheels painted black with 205/50 15" Falken Azenis... highly recommend this setup!

As for the suspension..... well...... I'd rather not say. I was drunk at the time and wanted to be low for a car show I went to.... If I get a job soon I will be fixing it :(.... that's right... you've guessed it... they're cut :(..... Don't shoot me!!!!

Big Body LX,

Your car looks very nice. What percent tint is that on the windows? 35%? 50%? I like it...

I have the exact same car, color and everything, cept I have black Enkei Mesh rims, but the cars look similar. Your tint makes the car look a lot better, and now I must tint my windows as well... :o

The windows are 28%. The legal limit here is 35% but I wanted darker. A local shop told me they'd do 28 and still put a sticker on it so we went ahead with it. I've compared it to 35% side by side and you can tell a difference.

Oh... and yeah... the ride quality is really ****ty.. I'm looking forward to my sportlines!

you dont have to buy a controller. just need a on/off push button from radioshack. its like a $5 job with full control of the height.

i sleepy eyed my car for 7$ ...all you need is a wire, a switch (or button i used a button because i can hold it down until the light reaches the desired height) and some wire ends(type will be shown below) (optional solder and soldering iron)

Basically all you have to do is bypass the fuse for your headlights motor .
(i advise you disconnect the battery since you are working with the cars electrons)

Figure out where you want to mount it then messure and cut the wires to size. (from the kick panel to where you want the button to be)

Solder/Attach wire ends to 2 wires the desired lenght. (i advise you make it a little longer because you can always shorten them)

Next you can attach the wires to the button or run the wires first and attach the button later, which ever is easier for you. (i attached the button first because i soldered everything)

Run the wires from the place where you will mount the button to the kick panel (attach wires to the button if they arent already)

Locate the light fuse in the kickpanel (its a 5 on the far side, take it out.)

Put the wire ends where the fuse used to be, you will see metal contact points where the 'legs' of the fuse used to go, one wire goes to each point...(they cant be crossed otherwise it wont work)

All thats left is to test it. It only works when closing the lights, so first open your lights, and try to close them...you will notice that they wont close   ...well thats what the button is for...hold the button down until the lights go to the point you want them to be. Also you can have the lights on while they are sleepy eyed. To close the lights you hit the button to open them, then hit it again to close them and hold down the "sleepy eye" button and the lights will close.

Hope that helps some of you guys.

Heres my free lazy eyes on my hatch. I have mine controlled by a toggle switch mounted on a carbon fiber DIN switch panel, ran to a wire behind the headlamp button thats just to the left of the steering wheel.(if that makes any sense)

all I do with mine is adjust it in the morning if I want to and there like that all day. If I drive at night I just turn my lights on. If I don't drive at night then when I get in my car in the morning there still like that.

It only takes 2 min to do by hand. I would never pay money for a controller.

It cost less than $5 for a switch a little bit of wire to make your own controller. Plus you have in car adjustability and can turn on ur lights when they are "sleepy."

Oic... so the pics i see of ppl with headlights om and sleepy mode have done a wring mod that doesnt make the lights go back to normal huh...
Thats good to hear, cuz i can drive "sleepy" in the day [pulled fuse method w/o wiring modification], and if i decide to drive at night, just turn on the headlights and it goes back to normal rite? I hardly drive at nite since the car sits at home and im at skool...

Yeh, I also wanna se jstyle180 with sleepy eyes at night [with headlights on]... do u drive like that and is it coo [enough light]?

KiDyNomiTe

mine are the pulled fuse methods, some have the switch/wiring, some have the pivot.

All personal preference. pros and cons on all three ways, and sure theres more ways.

within hopefully 2 weeks, my car will be permanently half asleep. :D Not by choice, though... Well, sort of by choice. I can't bolt up my headlight motors, so it'll have to be fixed. :o Wait for it... you'll be disgusted at how bad the car looks, yet how good it all comes together! ... Or something!

No night pics.

Ill get some soon.

I drive w/the lights like that when there's still
some light out.Not safe when its all dark!

By the way mine is set up w/toggle switches,no need to
pop the hood, or pull any switches ,its all done from inside .
