About to upgrade my stock speakers but I just wanted to make sure before I purchased something on the actual size of the fronts and backs of a 96 se. I think I read somewhere that the 96 has 6 1/2's all the way around. I couldn't find anything in the manual about the size. If someone could confirm this, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

oversized 6 1/2" also known as 6 3/4"...
you can buy 6 1/2" like I did and have to ghetto mount them

6 3/4" all around huh? How hard was it to fit the 6 1/2's? Is it real bad or kinda off?

I had no problem putting RF 6.5"s in the back. Today it took me and a friend of mine almost 2 hours to put 6.5"s in the doors because we had to redrill the holes and snap some of the plastic molding off of the speaker frame that is attached to the inside of the door in order to get the speakers to fit. Tomorrow I'm going to custom rig a way to mount my new tweeters back into the pillars. If you need any help let me know.

yeah I was thinking about getting some Infinity 6 1/2's for both the front and back but it looks like the fronts are the most difficult to fit. Either 6 1/2 or 3/4 in the back and 6 3/4 in the front. hummmmmm

Did you have to do any modification to the fronts to get them to fit?

i got the same setup as GT specR. infinity kappa's 6 3/4's in the front and 6 1/2's in the back. everything just drops in perfectly. the only thing with the back is that you'll have to cut bigger holes in the console that pops out cuz the stock grills are way too small.

I have Kappa 6.35i's in the front and Reference 6.25i's in the back. I didn't have any issues with the install, but then again I paid someone to install mine.....I wanted the Dynamat that came with the install. :D

Umm....compare to stock......
BIG DIFFERENCE....MUCH MUCH BETTER

me likey very much :D

But seriously the setup provides very sharp and clear sound upfront with just enough bass from the rear. Now I need a Basslink and I'm done with my sound system.

what exactly is a basslink? what would that include? how much bass is just enough? I kinda like strong bass, so depending on how I like it, I was thinking about subs. Who knows.

like GT specR said. HUGE difference. i love my kappa's. altho i have a different setup. i got the kappa 652.5i's in the front (6 3/4", 2 way) and the 63.5i's in the back (6 1/2", 3 way). the treble is really sharp. you can hear everything really clearly. i got 2 12's in my trunk and i couldn't really hear that much music with the stock speakers, but once i got my kappa's, everything just came out really clearly. installing is really easy. everything just drops right in perfectly with no problems. go with kappa's. they rule.

Basslink is a 10" sub and amp combo or just a sub and amp in one item. It's small and doesn't take up alot of trunk space compared to a sub (in a box) with the amp separately(sp). It will provide me with just enough bass (with no distortion), because I'm not the type that prefers low tones over high and mid tones. There's also more to it with using the right amp with the right sub(s) to prevent any distortion.....but that's another topic....which someone will feel tempted to argue on. But basically the Basslink is a good product and gets great reviews....plus you can find one for $150+.

yeah I researched it some last night. Does get some good reviews. :D But I didn't find it anywhere for around $150, cheapest I saw it was on ebay for about 200 or so. Some online sites I saw selling it for around $215 or so. Still looks like a bang for the buck situation. Also, when you put in ur new speakers did u have to do any rewiring? I beleive on the s14 they have an amp for the back speakers. Correct me if I'm wrong, but did u have to disable the back amp for the new speakers to work?

They bypassed the factory amp when they installed my speakers. As for the Basslink...I mentioned $150+ ;)

How exactly did they bypass the amp? Do you happen to know?
