View Full Version : The stupid little "hub caps"...

For those of you who have had to take those stupid "hub caps" off in order to access the nut that holds the hub + bearing off on the front spindle of their S-chassis (phew, long run on sentence), did you guys put those back on after you've done a 5-lug swap?
I'm asking because mine wouldn't go on with the S5 hubs installed.
Compared to the OEM 4-lug hubs, the S5 5-lug hubs seem to have a smaller inner diameter, thus not allowing the little "hub caps" to fit in there.
If you didn't put those caps back on, have you had any problems with your hubs or grease flying out or anything like that?
Thanks.

On my old car it didnt come with any, and i didnt have any problems. Its a good idea to have some to keep crap from going in there, so i eventually just made like a seal out of rubber.

actually no. if you have grease coming out of the wheel brg housing of the hubs, you may have too much wb grease. But i ran into the same problem with my first gen C.S. hubs purchased from Phase2. I also had problems with wheel brg failing due to lack of packed grease from the mfg and choice of brgs the mfg used. (BTW: Phase2 should have 2nd Gen C.S. hubs that are redesigned in stock now) My fault for not checking on the grease part....
note: buy genuine nissan frt wheel bearing and install...*
*factory nissan frt wheel brgs may not fit in all aftermarket front hubs.
if tolerance is close:
a quick suggestion would be to make 4 quadrants by cutting slits (hehe) into the seating portion of the cover to allow the outer diameter of the cap to decrease in size as you pound with a BFH :hammer:
another is to zip tie a heavy duty balloon that has been trimmed to fit.
