Hey,
Someone came this morning and took pictures of my car....in Dana Point, CA....
I don't want to think about something more negative...... since I am really scared now......
My neighbor told me that he saw someone with a red Honda Civic took pictures of my s14 JDM Aeroed Kouki parked in front of my driveway this morning......
I knew that a lot of our cars have been stolen.......I don't really want to think that this will lead into something bad to my car.....but my question is that why did the guy come and ask for permission before taking pictures........And, what is he gonna do with my car's pics?...
Honestly, I don't like the way that guy did......However, I cannot do anything about it........All I can do is being more careful.....

if your car is nice trust me people will take pics.. then you see a guy with a replica of your car in the area.
try to park your car in a garage it's the safest place for it. do not post your mods either.

all i can say is hope for the worst and prepare for what ever can happen. go get a vid cam and set it up outside that points to your car (that is if you park outside). but if they take it while your in some store shopping around, then i dont know. Install a few kill switches in your car (fuel pump, ignition..etc..)
good luck man.

Hopefully, it's just a guy who really like my car, and all he wants is just pictures....
Honestly, I am really scared.....

this guy might be right, never know.
few months ago a guy was taking pictures of my brothers ae86 corolla parked in his garage with the garage door opened. my brother caught him and came out and confronted him and turns out he just wanted to take pics cause he really loves those cars and admires them. :)

maybe he really liked it and just wanted pics to have some kind of inspiration. that is the only thing one can hope for. i know when i was younger (being that i am a huge ferrari nut) i asked a local shop owner if he would mind that i take pictures of his cars for personal collection. the guy said yeah it was ok. so i did. just hope that guy that took pics was just being like me. if not get an alarm and a handy metal bat.

I don't mind if someone would want some shots of pics of my car since I also love the fact that everyone likes the car......but, this guy came out of nowhere and never ask to get permission.....

this happened to me before. these two dudes had kept coming around my street creeping slowly looking at my car. my mom had seen them and so she told me. later that day I was wiping off my car and they came by I stopped and asked if I could help them. the passenger just asked what kind of bodykit it had on the front. I just said that it didn't and he was like isn't that a sileighty kit. I just said yeah and he said his kid was looking at 240s and really liked the "sileighty kit" as he called it. and he said he had never seen one in person and he really liked the way my car looked (too me its not really much to look at) but I thanked him and I never saw him again. some people just like to admire certain cars but may overdue it in a sense. you can never be too careful though. if I hadn't spoke to that guy I would've taken every precaution to protect my car. even though she's an ugger. I still love her

Focus??
Unless it's a Ford Focus (Cosworth)
To the OP... People who steal cars usually don't take pics. The flash brings unwanted attention and why would you take a pic of something you are about to steal?
People are jockin your car, so that means thieves probably notice it too

It's happened to me, and my car is far from nice, I have come out of the mall and saw people taking pictures of my car and shit, kneeling to see my exhaust and shit... God knows why, I am more than willing that it is the butt of someone's joke on someone's web forum somewhere or something.

Maybe they've been watching "Gone in 60 seconds" and they naming the cars and taking pictures for future reference.
Or they could just be admiring your car.
Sometimes it does freak me out a bit when people ask about my car and take pics.
But that's just part of the thing that we do. My car is flashy and that's how I like it and I should be prepare to deal with that.

+1 haha. She hates my car's ability to slowly kill her (breast bouncing slammedness, straight-pipe fumes, no a/c, etc) So she LOVES volunteering to take her hybrid everywhere.
As for pics, I'd leave zero tolerance for shit like that. The cameraman may not be taking pics for the intent of stealing the car, but he may unknowingly have a thief as a friend who'll also see the pic by chance. Wheel boots, QR, kill switches, alarms, mutant midgets: select one or all and you'll thank me later.

i came out of walmart one day to see a few younger kids taking pics of my car last month. I freaked too with all kinds of "worst case scenario" stories, but in reality they dont know where it sleeps at night. I'n your case, I would be worried, but feel better because now you can look for a red civic driving through your neighborhood. Also, it sounds like your neighbors do a good job of watching your car.
I've come to realize that the fear of theft is far more debilitating than the actual theft. My car is like my child. when it runs poorly i feel bad, when its dirty I feel dirty, when it gets violated by someone else, I've been violated by someone else. I'm sure 80% feel the same way. My social life is hampered because I don't want to drive to said nightclub or store because it could get dinged or even have the stereo stolen or worse yet get jacked by a theif well versed in defeating a qr/lock, well installed pager alarm, finding an unplugged sensor, and get away without being noticed in a busy parking lot. I'm probably 18k deep into this car and realized that the loss of 15k is just as possible through a wreck, lawsuit, poor investment, loss of job, or any other financially draining situations that plague the human race.
Take the necessary precautions, watch your crap, but don't let it control your mind...I've missed out on many fun nights with girls or my friends because I would rather keep the 240 parked in safety. You could be home worrying about your car and get it jacked or you could be at home having fun not worrying about your car and get it jacked. Either way the end result is the same but your frame of mind is much different towards the promotion of a healthy lifestyle.
you should set up a camera watching your car when you park it to see if they come back.

mostly at events people will take pics, but they take pics of everyone. i actually like it because i dont have a camera, so its nice to see pics of my car pop up after the events for me to save.
but i have had an older guy stop at my house and ask me about my car, he was like 45 probably and had just bought a project s13 for him and his son to work on, he took a couple pictures, asked about my aero and SR (they were building an sr also) really nice guy, but i'll be pissed if i see a clone of my car driving around any time soon. dude said his son wanted to get into drifting also.

And this is why my car sits with a cover over it all the time, blocked by another car, and isn't found anywhere online. I don't drive it to anything car related and I never go near my subdivision if there's a car behind me either. I did have two kids stop a few years ago to look at my old car, I came outside with a gun. I don't care what they wanted, I don't know them or care to know them, and stepping on to my property isn't cool. They didn't come back.
I'd be prepared for the worst just in case.

Back when I was 16, I used to work at a grocery store. I was sitting in my car one day on my 15min break. Some random lady in a white SUV parks about 3 spaces away from me, takes a picture, then drives off. To this day i don't know what the hell she took a picture for.

If they wanted to steal your car, chances are they would attempt to do it whether or not any pictures were taken.
And there has been occasions where the was a nice 240 on one of my friend's street and we would purposely slow down just to take a look at it, again I can see if someone saw us do it, it could be perceived as suspicious but we are only admiring especially times when we drive by the area 2 or more times a day (not driving by to check the vehicle but it just happens to be on our route, but we do slow down to admire). I also had the same treatment done to my car time and time again and nothing has come of it (though my car is not great at all, but they are somewhat rare around here). Hell some random old man walking his down randomly came upto me the other day while I was going to my car and told me its such a nice car "how long have you had it for?, its such a nice car" Apparently 240's how a large fanbase heh. Me and my GF were thinking WTF this dude seemed normal and not a wacko but also like 70 years old lol.
Don't be too paranoid however like everyday with anything of value you cannot be too safe.

Like mentioned before, park it in a garage, I've had people do wierd shit around my house. Late at night, awhile back, I saw this one red s13 that passed my house at least 6 times, I was working on my car that day in my garage. I've even had like random people just come up to me while I'm working on my car and just want to know what I have or tell me they have a 240 also and saw me working on mine.
Gets kinda suspicious though, and makes me paranoid. Get a car cover for it too. And just cover it when your inside the house.

id install a fuel cutoff switch, just a lil rocker switch or push button switch cost less then 10$, hide it crazy well, in the trunk? under the dash on teh passenger side, in a locked glove box. or a plain ole red button that says push here. lol cheap alternative to protect your investment.
you could part the car out and have it crushed and someone would probably try to steal your steel ... ha ha get it , steal steel. ok 4 real though fuel cut switches, or an alarm with igniiton cut,
or buy a dog and leave it in the car lol and feed it once a week,
but take care though.

Insurance doesn't cover anything except the base car with nothing on it, so a stolen vehicle would net you about $3500 for a 98 SE fully loaded after paying half that yearly just to insure it.
I don't drive my car much either, I have a daily for that. When I do enjoy it it's always in the mountains, hundred miles away from all the idiots, fan boys, thieves, and 'admirers'. I'd rather enjoy stuffing it into a ditch than having someone steal it or vandalize it.

True, running plates is scary but my registration is sent to my parents' p.o. box so i never worried about it.
If your alarm works and can WAKE YOU UP at night, I wouldn't worry about it. just make sure there's a backup battery so if they cut main power you still have juice. Takes me 30 seconds to be out of bed, gun in hand and around the corner in the alley without being visible to a thief. Would take a very good thief longer to find and disable all anti theft devices for sure. The only problem is if they don't have a weapon and you fire, you may lose some years of your life in prison...

My biggest fear are tow trucks. I plan to have a... installed..I cant remember what its called but it'll trigger your alarm if the car is lifted even slightly.

It's part of an alarm system. It's kinda like an add-on.

I took a picture of that chameleon blue/green rx7 that was big on the show scene back in 02 with a fun saver while he was driving next to me on the freeway...
I've taken pictures of tons of cars while driving or while they were parked to show them to other people.

it could be people doin it fo rtheir websites or highschool projects.. or people using reference pics for ebay bodykit sales lol..
I hate the people who stop at your house.. I had a thread up last year about this.. I used to get people who drive by my house stop in the middle of the street and shout out what am i doing what kind of car is that what motor do i got etc.. People would get out of their cars and stuff.. It wasnt too bad but you never know, my brothers datsun 280z was stolen from our driveway like a decade ago.
I had a guy follow me into a parking lot and when i got out the car, he jus asked me about the rx7, said he has a Rx3 with FD motor and was jus curious about my car yadda yadda.. those people I do not mind, kinda like it.
The best memory though was the elementary school kids who got off the bus walking by my house, little boy is like "cool car" comes up and looks at the speedometer.. "woah 180mph?? thats faster then my dads 350z!!"

Tow trucks are scary. I park front wheels in first and crank it all the way over and lock the hub. If a tow truck gets my rear end up (though i took a tow hook off for exhaust + bodykit gets in the way), my front wheels are rolling into my carport and hes not going wnywhere with it. If he wants to lift my front tires to get it on dollies, hes gonna have a hell of a time in my dirt carport with a jack that probably wont fit under the bodykit. So the tow truck would need to destroy the aero and shake the car significantly to get it out of there. If hes cautious enough to not trigger my alarm thats triggered by even the wind, ill be impressed and sad at the same time. take as many precautions as possible. maybe even a proximity mine?

if you park that thing outside you're just leaving it open for grabs. i always keep my S14 in the garage. one night i parked my old s14 outside to take pictures, and my Seattle Police officer neighbor (with a K-9) came over, knocked on my door, and told me someone was taking pictures of my car. i laughed, and thanked him very much and told him i had snapped a few shots. try your best to get it in a garage.
